Grants of $5,000 to Michigan businesses in eligible locations for relief from the effects the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. Funding is intended to provide support to local small businesses affected by the pandemic. Priority will be given to businesses owned by black, indigenous and all people of color (BIPOC) and/or women-owned businesses, with secondary consideration being given to businesses located within the Shared Prosperity Kalamazoo neighborhoods (Edison, Northside, and Eastside).

Kalamazoo Micro-Enterprise Grants (KMEG) provide grants to eligible microbusinesses within the city limits. The grant program is designed to bring relief to Kalamazoo's smallest businesses hit hardest by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is a partnership between the City of Kalamazoo and United Way of the Battle Creek and Kalamazoo Region with support from the Consumers Energy Foundation and the city's Foundation For Excellence.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible businesses include any for-profit enterprise that can demonstrate the following:
- Is located in the City of Kalamazoo;
- Has 10 employees or less;
- Has been in operation for at least 1 year;
- Has annual revenue of $1.0 million or less;
- Needs working capital to support payroll expenses, rent, mortgage payments, utility expenses, or other similar expenses that occur in the ordinary course of business or that demonstrate an effort to support public health;
- Is able to demonstrate an income loss as a result of the state's executive order, or the COVID-19 outbreak.

Priority consideration will be given to microbusinesses owned by black, indigenous and all people of color (BIPOC) and/or women-owned businesses, with secondary consideration being given to businesses located within the Shared Prosperity Kalamazoo neighborhoods (Edison, Northside, and Eastside).

Pre-Application Information:

The application window is noon on May 13, 2020, through 5 p.m. May 27, 2020.

A review committee representing various sectors of the Kalamazoo community will make funding decisions by June 1, keeping a focus on equity and intersectionality.
