Grants of $5,000 and grants of $10,000 to California businesses in eligible locations for Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief. Funding is intended to help local small businesses that have been impacted by required and voluntary closures, social distancing, and decreased customer demand. Eligible businesses must be located in the City of Fresno.

The city has already distributed funds to 118 small businesses. Now Round 2 of the Save Our Small Businesses program will provide additional emergency relief funds to small businesses operating in the City of Fresno that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The grants provided through the program may be used for:

  • Payroll and benefit costs
  • Unemployment insurance costs incurred by the recipient as an employer if such costs will not be reimbursed by the federal government pursuant to the CARES Act or otherwise
  • Overdue rent or mortgage payments to avoid eviction or foreclosure
  • Unpaid utility fees
  • Inventory or supplies required to safely reopen the business including PPE

Businesses with 1-5 employees are eligible for $5,000 grants; businesses with 6-25 employees are eligible for $10,000 grants.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The business must:
- Be physically located and operating in the City of Fresno
- Have been operating with a current and valid City of Fresno business tax certificate for at least one year prior to March 4, 2020
- Have 25 or fewer employees on payroll; owner-operated businesses and consultancies are considered to have a single employee
- Must have no outstanding code violations and be operating as permitted by their conditional use permit
- Must have been subject to a required or voluntary closure or reduction of business operations or be able to provide proof of at least 25% loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 crisis. This requirement may be met through the submission of income statements as would be provided to the City of Fresno’s Business Tax Division. Businesses do not need to submit a full profit and loss statement.

Funds may not be used for property capital improvements or the purchase of furniture, electronics, office supplies, or other general business expenses.

Pre-Application Information:

Application Deadline: 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020.

Businesses will be notified of the results of the random selections starting Monday, June 15.

City of Fresno businesses are encouraged to apply to the city-administered Save Our Small Businesses program and the Fresno County Helping Underserved Businesses (HUB) program although businesses may accept funding from only one. Businesses that operate outside city limits or on county islands within city limits can ONLY apply to the county HUB program.
