Request a Grant Writer

Loans of up to $4,000 to Maine businesses in eligible areas for support during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is intended to assist local small for-profit and nonprofit businesses that are economically impacted by the pandemic, that are working to restore normal business operations, and that may not be able to easily qualify for business assistance loans and grants from other sources. Eligible businesses are located in the city of Lewiston.

Eligible uses:

  • Physical changes to premises or equipment needed to implement social distancing 
  • Furniture/fixtures/equipment needed to expand into and utilize outdoor spaces, such as seating/table, weather protection, installation of barriers to define space 
  • Initial cost of goods needed to reopen 
  • Rent or mortgage payment 
  • Payroll upon documentation showing that the applicant as pursued but not been able to obtain funding through the federal payroll protection plan or the funding from this source has been exhausted
  • Credit card debt incurred within the last 60 days for qualified business expenses
  • Technical assistance or business advising to help plan for continued business operation and recovery.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
- Employ fewer than 50 employees or gross sales of less than $2 million at the time of most recent federal income tax filing.
- Must be physically located in Lewiston. If the business has other locations outside the city, Lewiston loan funds must be expended only for Lewiston location.
- Must be current on taxes and other charges owed to the city as of January 1, 2020.
- Acceptable credit report for all owners with 20% or greater ownership
- Determination that business can successfully re-establish or continue operations post COVID-19
- Preference will be given to restaurants with additional costs/burdens attributable to state requirements for inside dining

Pre-Application Information:

Applications for the first installment are due by July 1, 2020.
