Grants of up to $25,000 to Iowa nonprofit organizations, businesses, individuals, government agencies, and agricultural cooperatives for programs that enhance the agricultural sector. Funding is intended for activities and services that add value to agricultural products, enable new technologies, increase production capacity, and support alternative marketing strategies to expand market access.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • Purchase and installation of equipment used in the production of value-added agricultural products
  • Creamery or milk product processing and packaging equipment
  • Food hub development or expansion
  • Cooler walls and refrigeration units
  • Grading, packing, labeling, packaging, or sorting equipment
  • Refrigerated trucks to access new markets
  • Food processing short courses and workshops.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Maximum grant awards shall not exceed $25,000.

Term of Contract:

Projects may not be in progress until a grant is awarded and must be completed in 18 months or less.

Pre-proposal Conference:

Applicant must:
- Be an individual, business, agricultural cooperative, non-profit organization, or local government.
- Be in good standing with the State of Iowa
- Currently reside or conduct business in Iowa
- Preference will be given to small and medium-sized businesses.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due no later than 5:00 pm on December 15, 2021.

Awards will be announced in January/February 2022.

Applicants must provide a minimum one-to-one financial match from private sources for total project costs.
