Celebrate National Michigan Day with These Five Grants

Editor’s Note: This is part of a series recognizing each of the 50 states by providing state-specific grants for each. These articles follow the National Day Calendar Year. The calendar began celebrating each state in the order they entered the union starting the week of Independence Day. National Michigan Day is celebrated on January 18, And Michigan was the 26th state to join the union.

So, in honor of National Michigan Day, GrantWatch is sharing some of its favorite grants below that are specifically for the state.

Michigan, known as the Great Lake State, joined the union on January 26, 1837. The state has both urban and rural areas and features five famous lakes, as well as beautiful mountains. With its 3,288-mile coastline, fishing is a very common activity in the state.

  3. Henry Ford created the assembly line there, which allowed for cars to be assembled very quickly.
  4. The state is 96,716 square miles in size
  5. It has the longest freshwater coastline in the U.S.
  6. In addition, it ranks first in state boat registrations.
  7. The state has 116 lighthouses and navigational lights.
  8. It is the only place in the entire world that has a floating post office on a ship.
  9. Actor Taylor Lautner is from there.
  10. It is home to over 260 different species of birds.

Five Michigan-Specific Grants

  1. FIrstly, there are grants available to Michigan nonprofits, for-profits, agencies, and tribes, to promote local agriculture. Funding will support projects focusing on areas such as promotion and marketing, education and training, and research and development.
  2. Grants to U.S. and territories educators for projects benefiting PreK-12 students. Funding is for classroom, school, or district-wide projects that encourage social-emotional growth. Grant funds may be used to support or expand an existing project or to start a new initiative.
  3. There are also grants available to Michigan nonprofits, agencies, and schools for projects that promote recreation and healthy lifestyles, Funding is for support the construction, repair, and maintenance of local facilities that benefit residents and visitors to the community.
  4. In addition, there are grants available to Michigan nonprofits for programs that benefit the community. The grants of up to $20,000 are for programming and operating support.
  5. Finally, there are also grants available to Michigan nonprofits to promote amateur sports for youth. Funds are to develop programs that promote amateur sports and fitness for youth.
