COVID Grants: 3 Years After Lockdowns There Are Still Funds Available
It’s been three years since the lockdowns began in the US. The worst appears to be over, yet for some, the aftereffects still lingering. Even yet today, many people and businesses still suffer from the physical, emotional and financial impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic (“COVID”) crisis. The good news is that there are still grants available to assist with COVID-related concerns. On March 19, 2020, The first statewide lockdown occurred in California. Lockdowns in many other states and cities soon followed. Some states and cities had long-term lockdowns. Others soon went back to business as usual. Certain restrictions, whether government-mandated or self-imposed, have had a long-lasting impact even after the pandemic.
Permanent Impact of COVID
There are people who are suffering permanent damage and chronic illness as a result of COVID infections. Some may not ever be able to return to their previous jobs. As we know, hit especially hard were the restaurant and theater industries. Some businesses were forced to shut down permanently. Though again operating, many now struggle to succeed. For instance, some busy downtown office areas have turned into ‘ghost towns. Now that restrictions have eased, some leaseholders broke their leases and have either moved to other regions or are maintaining a largely remote workforce.
Workforce Side Effects
Another side effect of the pandemic was that many older workers retired early. People with serious health conditions also left the workforce. In many instances, parents lacking childcare options were forced to leave their jobs in order to stay home with their children. Some industries are still struggling with limited workforce issues. According to Brookings Metro, as of August 2022, as many as 4 million people had not returned to work due to the effects of “long Covid” (lingering, debilitating health conditions as a result of Covid infection).
5 COVID Grants

1. Grants to agricultural producers for support in the wake of the COVID health crisis. Funding assists producers of agricultural commodities who have been negatively impacted and are facing financial challenges as a result of the pandemic.
2. In addition, there is in-kind grant support for nonprofits, governments and small businesses impacted by the COVID crisis. This program helps businesses and organizations adapt to online and remote operations necessitated by the COVID pandemic.
3. There is also In-kind support for business development assistance for startups, businesses, and individuals. Funding helps participants recover from the negative impact of the COVID pandemic.
4. Funding is available to government agencies and Tribal governments for COVID recovery efforts.
5. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to nonprofits, public schools and libraries to support charitable causes. Funding focuses on areas of COVID-related issues, human services, disaster relief and the environment. Program and project requests, along with operating grant requests, are being accepted.
