Five Animal Welfare Grants for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day

Seventy percent of U.S. households own a pet, according to the 2021-2022 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association (APPA). However, there are many pets who have not had any luck finding a home.

National Adopt a Shelter Pet brings awareness to the need for adoption among shelter pets. The phrase “adopt, don’t shop” is something you hear a lot about adopting pets, especially when it comes to people breeding dogs rather than focusing on those that already need a place to stay.

Many animal shelters lack funding which may lead to overcrowding. Without this money, shelters are not able to keep all of the pets that end up there in their care and some even end up killing these animals as a result. For this reason, finding grants for shelters and animal welfare is crucial to help all animals find a safe and nurturing home.

GrantWatch has information about numerous grants for animal shelters currently available. And in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, the site will be sharing five of these grants today.

Other Ways to Celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day

  1. Well, of course, the number one way to celebrate this day is to actually head to your nearest shelter and adopt a pet. Make sure it is okay with all the people in your household first. If you do want to make this choice, then you can find the closest shelter right here.
  2. Volunteer at a shelter or even sign up to be a regular volunteer. This can be a great option if you’re not in the right place to adopt a new pet or if you just want to give back.
  3. If you really don’t have the capacity for the first two items on this list, that’s okay. Instead, use your social media to open up the discussion on the importance of adopting directly from shelters. Use the #adoptdontshop hashtag to spread the word on this important issue.
