Five Grants to Celebrate National Rural Health Day

Having access to health care is an issue that many rural communities face. Because of this, state and federal governments have been working to empower rural communities. This includes offering workforce training and more job opportunities, as well as improving broadband infrastructure.

The third Thursday of November has been set aside as National Rural Health Day. GrantWatch has a category specifically for health and medical grants, as well as one for community/economic development grants. And in honor of the latest Rural Health Day on Nov. 18, GrantWatch will be sharing five grants to help fund initiatives to increase access to healthcare for rural areas.

National Rural Health Day is a day to “celebrate the power of rural.”

Rural America is crucial to society and the economy. These areas are responsible for most of the food and water available to the country. They also give a space for outdoor recreational activities.

However, there are many specific challenges that people living in rural communities face regarding their health. This includes healthcare worker shortages, aging infrastructure, greater distances between emergency facilities, and other similar problems.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Rural Americans are at a greater risk of heart disease, cancer, unintentional injury, chronic lower respiratory disease, and stroke.
