Five Grants to Help Combat Domestic Violence
Few topics are as consistently heartbreaking as effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on victims of domestic violence. During lockdowns and restrictions, we saw the number of reported cases of soar – and that’s only the cases that we actually know about. In these particular situations, victims are essentially trapped together with their abusers without being able to escape.
The number of 911 calls and the number of people needing help from shelters or other nonprofits rose. Earlier this year, Alabama awarded grants to nonprofits to help victims. Many nonprofits help victims in finding safe housing, employment and gaining access to critical services. Funding these services becomes even more critical as we begin to see the fallout from the pandemic.
These grants we have listed on GrantWatch help to combat domestic violence.
1. There are grants for nonprofits in the U.S. to assist victims of abuse and their pets. These grants of up to $20,000 are available for programs that provide shelter to victims of abuse and their pets. The purpose of this grant program is to make it safe for victims to be able to flee unsafe situations.
2. Grants are available to Pennsylvania nonprofits and county governments to respond to violent crimes against women. These grants are for victim services agencies (nonprofits) or county governments to enhance the criminal justice system’s response to violent crime and to improve victim services.
3. Grants are available to Colorado nonprofits for the provision of legal services to victims of domestic violence. This includes acts of violence, harassment, stalking and coercion.
4. These grants are for Hawaii nonprofits to address stalking, violence and assault. These grants are for nonprofits, including community and faith-based organizations to address stalking, violence and assault.
5. These grants for Washington D.C nonprofits, agencies and tribes are for programs and services that address domestic violence. Some of the programs that can be funded under this grant are those that prevent cases of domestic violence or offer services to victims of domestic violence.
