Florida Governor Announces Recipients of Career Opportunities Grant
We talk a lot about workforce development here at GrantNews. We do that because we know that it is essential to ensure that future careers have skilled workers. This also ensures that more Americans will have access to more high-paying jobs, even as the market begins to shift.
Retraining and workforce development programs offer training to those who have lost their jobs for a range of reasons. Beyond those programs, there are also apprenticeship programs that allow for students to be paid while they learn an important skill-based career. In Florida, a grant program exists to help fund these programs at specific institutions. This grant program is called Career Opportunities Grant Awardees.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, along with Florida’s Education Commissioner, Richard Corcoran, announced the recipients of this grant program that will receive the funding. Awards totaling $10 million will be awarded to various school districts, colleges, state universities, and private training entities to expand existing apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs.
Here’s what Governor Ron DeSantis had to say about the award of these grants : “The Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant Program has been a priority of this administration since day one. Expanding registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs not only is a strategic investment in our state’s workforce, but it addresses the state’s skills gap, provides support for employers and residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Career Opportunities Are Important for Workers of All Ages
These Pathways to Career Opportunities Grants will help retrain workforce in a changing world of employment. While many skilled and unskilled jobs are lost to automation, new jobs and fields are opening at the same time that need a workforce with new skills. The programs funded by these grants will help Florida businesses and industry while helping displaced workers find new and rewarding career opportunities.

- Grants to Florida Nonprofits in Eligible Counties for Arts Programming in Public Schools. Funding is intended to integrate in-school art programming and field trips with regular class curricula for students in Lake, Orange, Osceola, or Seminole Counties.
- For cultural programming to bring more tourists to the region, up to $96,000 is available, depending on the size of your organization, in Grants to Florida Arts Nonprofits for Events and Performances that Attract Tourists.
- For the creation and maintenance of recreational trails, the purchase of equipment, and educational projects, check out Grants to Florida Agencies, Tribal Governments, and Nonprofits for Recreational Infrastructure. This is a matching grant (50-50, 60-40 or 80-20) of up to $400,000 for nonmotorized single-use or diverse-use projects is $400,000, and $1 million for motorized single-use projects.
- And, Grants to Florida Nonprofits, Agencies, and IHEs for Volunteer Services to Benefit Communities offers up to $18,000 over 12 months to support volunteer services in the areas of social justice, education, COVID-19 community recovery, economic development, and more.
