Honoring America’s Heroes with Nine Grants for Veterans Day
Veterans Day takes place on November 11th. The day is a time to recognize and celebrate all veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans and active duty service members do so much to keep our country safe and protect our freedoms. Because of this, they deserve to be honored and helped in any way possible.
One of the best ways to help veterans is by funding organizations that help provide supplemental services. These grants can help to provide emergency funding for veterans, as well as funding for organizations that provide services for veterans. For this reason, GrantWatch is sharing several grants today that are currently available to help veterans and their families.
Unfortunately, veterans face many challenges when returning to civilian life. From finding access to housing and employment to struggling with mental health issues, it can be hard to adjust. Even with access to healthcare and services offered through the Department of Veterans Affairs, many veterans go without help.
According to the Veterans Administration, approximately 22 veterans die by suicide every day. And while the estimated number of Veterans experiencing homelessness in the United States has declined by more than 40 percent since 2011, there are still many veterans without a place to call home. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs notes that 37,085 veterans experienced homelessness in January 2019. Below, are nine grants that provide funding to tackle all of these issues and more.
Nine Grants to Help Veterans in Need
- Grants of up to $1,000 are available to USA-qualifying military veterans and military spouses to cover unexpected expenses. Funding is to allow veterans and their spouses to complete postsecondary education programs and succeed in a competitive job market.
- There are also opportunities for U.S. post-9/11 veterans with disabilities to participate in a program to build skills and resources related to business management and entrepreneurship.
- Grants are offered for U.S. first responders, military personnel, and veterans with disabilities for sports and fitness programs that enhance physical and mental health.
- Funding is also available for U.S. female veterans and female military spouses to attend a small business management and entrepreneurship program.
- U.S. veterans can also apply for in-kind grants of specially adapted custom housing that accommodates severe injuries they received while in service.
- Additionally, grants of up to $50,000 are open to nonprofits, agencies, and tribes for art projects to benefit active military, veterans, and their families.
- There are grants of up to $1,500 for U.S. military service members, veterans, or dependents who are undergoing unexpected financial hardship.
- There are also grants of up to $25,000 available for U.S. IHEs and nonprofits serving veterans to expand organizational capacity.
- Finally, there are grants for U.S. military service members and veterans with disabilities who require special housing adaptations.
