National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
November 12-20, 2022, is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. The week is an annual campaign that brings attention to the problems of hunger and homelessness. During this week, you can participate in a series of educational, service, fundraising, and advocacy events.
Many Americans live paycheck to paycheck. The struggle to fulfill basic needs can be a daily obstacle. It takes only one misstep — an illness, injury, or temporary job loss — to place people on the path to poverty, hunger, and even homelessness. Last year, the coronavirus crisis forced many individuals into difficult positions and impacted their lives.
Food pantries, shelters, and other service organizations require financial and service donations to continue operating. These organizations provide food, shelter, and other aid to those who need it most. Whether they are providing meals, clean towels, socks, or a place to rest, they’re vital to communities.
10 Grants to Help the Homeless & the Hungry
- Grants are available to support homelessness prevention programs for people with severe mental illnesses.
- In-kind grants of donated goods and services can support homeless, low-income, and disabled veterans.
- Financial assistance is available to individuals and families with low incomes in both the USA and Canada.
- In addition, awards of up to $50,000 are offered to nonprofit founders ages 50 and older, to recognize efforts to create a positive impact.
- Grants of up to $5,000 are available to organizations for initiatives that address injustices worldwide, including hunger and homelessness.
- Opportunity for nonprofit & faith-based organizations to receive donated food and other essential items to distribute within the community.
- Grants of up to $15,000 are also open to nonprofits for projects and programs that support transitional housing for military personnel, veterans, and their families.
- Nonprofit organizations can also apply for grants to support programs to encourage nutritious eating and reduce food insecurity.
- Additionally, grants are available to support activities that improve standards of living, address poverty, and provide food security in eligible countries.
- Finally, nonprofit shelters that provide housing for victims of domestic violence and their pets can apply for grants of up to $1,000.
