Suicide Prevention Grants for Veterans

September is the National Suicide Prevention Month. This month has come to a close, but unfortunately, suicide is a common topic not only this month but every day of the year.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs shows that more than 6,000 veterans die of suicide every year! This is a huge public health crisis that needs to be dealt with.

Many of our heroes who served this country deal with PTSD from the images of war and terror that they revisit each day. Moreover, they deal with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and grief that create a great strain on their lives. Unfortunately, this may lead to veterans committing suicide.

Organizations that help Veteran Suicide Prevention

We must help prevent suicide within the veteran community, so we can save the heroes that have served our country and fought to keep us safe.

There are many organizations that seek to help combat this issue. The US Department of Veteran Affairs has a program called ‘Be There’ that seeks to prevent veteran suicide by teaching others the warnings of suicide and how to help.

Grants to help at-risk veterans

Thankfully, GrantWatch has a category of grants dedicated to Veterans. As we see the importance of giving back to those that gave up so much for us. Many organizations seek to prevent suicide within the veteran community and distribute funds to nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals to improve the mental health state of our veterans.

The 2021-2022 Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) Grants, provides funding to Texas nonprofits and agencies to enhance the lives of veterans and their families. This consists of the Veterans Mental Health Program which provides counseling and treatment for veterans and their families by addressing diagnosed conditions to improve their relationships, outlook, quality of life, and successful integration into their communities.

The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically. They offer the Capacity Building Grant for USA nonprofits and IHEs to address the mental and physical needs of veterans.

In addition, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Charitable Service Trust provides grants to USA nonprofits to improve the lives of at-risk military veterans.

Whether you are a nonprofit, a veteran, or know a veteran – there is help out there! Apply for these grants and help save the lives of our heroes!
