Utah Launches New Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Grant Program
One of the most significant issues facing our health care workers has been a shortage of essential Personal Protective Equipment that prevents the spread of COVID-19 from patients to health care professionals that are treating them. Because of this novel coronavirus that has made a massive impact all across the country, hospitals have struggled to come up with enough equipment to provide their doctors, nurses, and other health professionals with enough protective equipment. Additionally, new government mandates may be making it incredibly difficult for small businesses to comply. This week, the State of Utah is opening up a PPE grant program for a total of $5 million. This program was made possible by Utah Legislature setting aside 5 million in CARES Act funds.
This initiative will be managed by Utah’s Governor’s Office of Economic Development, and is being called “Safe in Utah.” Grants under this initiative can include grants for organizations that are looking to purchase additional personal protective equipment, additional signage, new technology solutions for any distance working, or anything else that will help organizations to comply with new public safety guidelines.
The Executive Director of Governor’s Office of Economic Development Van Hale spoke on this emerging grant program:
We encourage businesses to do everything they can to help keep their employees and customers safe and healthy. We are pleased the Legislature created this grant program and look forward to helping more Utah companies, particularly small businesses, pay for modifications to their workplace or technology used to support remote work.
One of the reasons this kind of program is so important is because for many small businesses who want to stay open even during this pandemic, complying with government mandates, keeping employees and customers safe, and still being able to maintain operations can be difficult. Grant programs such as this can be helpful to help SMBs to fill this gap.

Personal Protective Equipment Grants
The following is a list of Personal Protective Equipment grants that will benefit your nonprofit or business.
- Grants of up to $1,500 to Oregon small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the funding source’s service area for support to reopen in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
- Grants of $5,000, grants of $7,500, and grants of $10,000 to Maryland businesses in eligible locations to mitigate the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis.
- Grants to Florida small businesses and nonprofit entities in eligible locations to offset revenue losses due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis.
- Grants of up to $4,000 to Nevada small businesses in eligible locations to help with reopening during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis.
- Reimbursement grants of up to $5,000 to Indianapolis small businesses in eligible locations to prepare for reopening in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
