Since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/\">GrantWatch<\/a> is a listing service mostly for nonprofits, we often find ourselves unable to assist. Call 211<\/b><\/a><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">211 is a phone number that is explicitly reserved to enable people in need to speak with a community resource specialist who can help them find local social services for everyday needs and in times of crisis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, active 211 systems cover all or part of the 50 states and some of Canada. They offer information on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the following types of services:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Basic Human Needs Resources \u2013 including food and clothing, shelters, housing, and utility assistance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Emergency information and disaster relief<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mental Health and Health Resources \u2013 including counseling, support groups, drug and alcohol treatment, health insurance programs, Medicaid and Medicare, maternal health resources, health insurance programs for children, medical information lines, clinics, and hospitals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employment and Education Support \u2013 including job training, employment services, transportation assistance, and education programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Older Adults and Persons with Disabilities \u2013 including adult day care, community meals, respite care, home health care, transportation, and homemaker services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children, Youth, and Family Support \u2013 For example, childcare, after-school programs, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/blog\/news-blog\/head-start-grants\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">educational programs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for low-income families, family resource centers, recreation programs, mentoring, tutoring, and protective services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Information on physical and or emotional Domestic Abuse.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.gov\/categories\"><b>2. Benefits.Gov<\/b><\/a><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benefits.gov is the official benefits website of the U.S. government. Its mission is to increase citizen access to benefit information while reducing the expense and difficulty of interacting with the government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The site&#8217;s core function is the eligibility prescreening questionnaire or &#8220;Benefit Finder.&#8221; In addition, answers to the questionnaire are used to evaluate a citizen\u2019s situation and compare it with eligibility criteria for more than 1,200 Federally-funded benefit and assistance programs. The site also features a recommendation engine that customizes the user\u2019s search for benefits based on their location or interest in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.gov\/categories\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">category<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usa.gov\/benefits-grants-loans\"><b>3. USA.Gov<\/b><\/a><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, USA.gov provides information about commonly needed government services and makes them accessible anytime, anywhere, via your channel of choice. This government website can also help direct you to resources relating to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State social service agencies<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government benefits<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Help with bills<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grants and loans<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food assistance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Affordable rental housing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Military programs and benefits<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Financial aid for students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unemployment help<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Retirees<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And much more!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many imposter and scam websites may have similar names. Remember \u2014 government websites will NEVER ask for a fee and the URLs will always <\/span><b>end<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the domain &#8220;.GOV&#8221;, while imposters will include \u201cgov\u201d before the end of the domain..<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>4. Local Nonprofits<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many grants are allocated to nonprofits that then use the funding to help the community. As an individual, you should reach out to the local nonprofit organizations in your community. For example:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salvationarmyusa.org\/usn\/\"><b>The Salvation Army<\/b><\/a><b> does the following:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helps disaster survivors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides food and shelter<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provides financial assistance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Combats addiction<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shares God&#8217;s love<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Assists the unemployed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fights human trafficking<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offers programs to stop domestic abuse<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offers educational programs to kids<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serves the LGBTQ community<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><b>5. Churches, Synagogues, &amp; Charities<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><b>Your local faith-based ministries <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">typically provide service to people, regardless of their faith, who are struggling with poverty and other complex issues. These services include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Affordable housing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Immigrant and refugee services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Integrated health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Food and nutrition programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disaster relief<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><b>6. Create a Crowdfunding Campaign<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crowdfunding is <\/span><b>an increasingly popular method of online fundraising for individuals, businesses, not-for-profits, and charities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Generally, it involves an individual or an organization setting a fundraising target online and then asking the crowd on the internet for donations to reach that target.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><b>7. Other Resources<\/b><\/h6>\n<p><b>Community Action Agency (CAA) <\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lastly, why not conduct a web search for a local <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/communityactionpartnership.com\/find-a-cap\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community Action Agency<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CAA)? They have several resources to help the needy. In addition, most churches, The United Way, and The Urban League are other organizations that also offer resources for those in crisis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Do you know of a place in your community that offers resources to help the needy?
