Mid-Michigan Community Action has received a $2.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services<\/a>. The grant will go specifically toward the organization’s head start program. The child-focused program seeks to increase the school readiness of children between 3-5 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program’s eligibility depends on the income level and is intended to help those who fall below the federal poverty line specifically, homeless families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The early childhood programs provided by MMCAA support the needs of children and families in our communities,” Rep. John Moolernaarm (R-MI) said. “I know the staff in Farwell works hard to provide the children in its care with a safe learning environment, and this grant will help MMCAA continue to provide those essential resources for years to come. I have advocated for Head Start funding in Congress because I know it helps residents in mid and northern Michigan, and I will continue to work across the aisle to support this important program.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Administration for Children and Families<\/a>, these programs provide crucial early-learning opportunities for some of the most vulnerable children. The goal is to help all children to succeed especially children with physical or mental disabilities and children experiencing homelessness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
