October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual campaign to support women impacted from breast cancer. The holiday raises awareness of the disease and highlights the preventive measures and screenings available to women. The National Breast Cancer Foundation has put out a list of breast cancer-related resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS)<\/a>, the average risk of a woman developing breast cancer is about 13 percent. This means that one in eight U.S. women will battle the disease during their lifetime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization also notes that the disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. ACS estimates that 281,550 people will suffer from invasive breast cancer in 2021. While it is more uncommon, men are also still at risk for breast cancer. An estimated 2,650 men will fight the illness this year in the U.S., and approximately 530 will die. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is why it is crucial to make sure these women and men have the financial support they need. Nonprofits and programs that support people impacted by breast cancer can find funding through grants. There are also grants available for individuals for medical costs and financial assistance for families. Below are five grants available on GrantWatch in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five Grants Related to the Fight Against Breast Cancer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. There are grants available for New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut institutions to support cancer fellowships for doctors<\/a>. These grants of up to $75,000 will support surgery fellowships for doctors. <\/li>
  2. There are grants available to U.S., Canada, and International breast cancer teams for innovative early detection projects<\/a>. Up to $40,000 in funding is available to support research to develop innovative techniques in the areas of immunologic or biological methods of early detection. <\/li>
  3. And there are grants available to Connecticut and New York nonprofits in eligible locations to assist women who are affected by breast cancer<\/a>. Funding will provide financial assistance for families as well as for diagnostic testing and screening. <\/li>
  4. Grants to Israel individuals recently diagnosed with breast cancer for financial assistance<\/a>. Funding is for immediate expenses related to the illness, such as transportation and parking, lost income, wigs and prostheses, childcare, and other types of assistance at home<\/li>
  5. And there are grants available to U.S. BIPOC women with a current or past breast cancer diagnosis for medical or financial support<\/a>. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
