Native Americans have a rich history that goes back well before the beginning of the establishment of the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only has their culture shown up in art, music, and education, but they influenced major advances in society. Some contributions Native Americans have made include domesticating edible plants, raising animals, and discovering the use of natural medicines.\u00a0Native Americans also helped make important discoveries in mathematics. <strong>Here are some other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/nicolefisher\/2020\/11\/29\/7-native-american-inventions-that-revolutionized-medicine-and-public-health\/?sh=fe1099e1e73b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">discoveries<\/a> they have influenced:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Syringes<\/li><li>Baby Bottles\u00a0<\/li><li>Mouth Wash &amp; Oral Hygiene<\/li><li>Oral Birth Control<\/li><li>Pain Relievers<\/li><li>Sun Screen<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnay.org\/resource-hub\/fast-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Native American Youth<\/a>, there are currently\u00a0573 federally-recognized tribes\u00a0in the Unites States. While celebrating Native American heritage, is also important to acknowledge some of the challenges that many of these communities face.This can include housing, food insecurity, and other related quality of life issues. For example, the center notes the poverty rate among American Indians\/Alaska Natives in 2014 was 28.8 percent. The U.S. Bureau of Justice also states that AI\/AN youth are arrested at a rate of three times the national average. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grants can help address these issues and fill gaps. <a href=\"http:\/\/grantwatch.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GrantWatch<\/a> has many grants specifically for tribes. And in honor of Native American Heritage Month, GrantWatch is sharing 10 grants below available for tribal organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with Grants<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Firstly, there are grants to community and faith-based organizations and tribes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/126399\/grants-to-usa-organizations-tribes-and-tribal-organizations-to-provide-services-to-children-with-special-health-care-needs.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to provide services to children with special health care needs<\/a>.<\/li><li>Grants to U.S. nonprofits, IHEs, and tribes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/182502\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-ihes-and-tribes-for-research-addressing-the-health-of-children-and-mothers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for research addressing the health of children and mothers<\/a>, as well as children with special health needs. <\/li><li>There are also grants of up to $32,000 to U.S. and territories tribes and native-controlled nonprofit organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/199516\/grants-to-usa-tribes-and-native-controlled-nonprofits-for-projects-to-promote-breastfeeding.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for projects to promote breastfeeding<\/a>. Funding is to reinforce traditional food systems within indigenous communities. <\/li><li>There is funding for U.S. nonprofits, universities, and tribes for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/177799\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-universities-and-tribes-for-the-conservation-of-forests-and-grasslands.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projects that enhance outdoor recreation<\/a> and improve the health of public forests and grasslands. <\/li><li>There are also grants available to U.S. nonprofits, agencies, and tribes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/187337\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-agencies-and-tribes-to-preserve-audio-and-video-media.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to preserve audio and video media<\/a>. <\/li><li>Funding is available to U.S. nonprofits, universities, and tribes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/177799\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-universities-and-tribes-for-the-conservation-of-forests-and-grasslands.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for the conservation of forests and grasslands<\/a>. Funding is available for initiatives that enhance outdoor recreation and improve the health of public forests and grasslands. <\/li><li>Additionally, there are grants to U.S. and territories nonprofits and for-profits, tribes, and faith-based organizations, <a href=\"https:\/\/grantwatch.com\/grant\/184800\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-and-for-profits-to-reduce-substance-abuse-in-rural-regions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to reduce rates of substance abuse<\/a> in rural areas. All activities supported by RCORP-Implementation must exclusively occur in HRSA-designated rural counties or rural census tracts in urban counties.<\/li><li>Grants of $3,000 and grants of $5,000 to U.S. and Canada grassroots groups, tribes, and First Nations <a href=\"https:\/\/grantwatch.com\/grant\/178266\/grants-to-usa-and-canada-organizations-tribes-first-nations-and-organizations-to-address-the-negative-effects-of-mining.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to mitigate the negative impacts of mining<\/a>. Priority funding is  for projects that protect ecosystems, the environment, community health, and cultural resources from mining impacts. <\/li><li>In addition, there are grants of up to $20,000 available for U.S. nonprofits, agencies, school districts, libraries, and tribes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/187206\/grants-and-in-kind-support-to-usa-nonprofits-agencies-and-tribes-for-community-events-that-promote-reading.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">for events that promote reading<\/a>. <\/li><li>Finally, there are grants available to U.S. agencies, nonprofits, tribes, and faith-based organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/183744\/grants-to-usa-agencies-nonprofits-tribes-and-faith-based-organizations-to-treat-victims-of-violence.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to treat victims of violence<\/a>.
