The Link, located in North Minneapolis, was given this grant from Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bezosdayonefund.org\/day1familiesfund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Day One Families Fund<\/a>. The grant will specifically be going towards the Link&#8217;s Young Families program.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Link is honored and thrilled to be a recipient of a Day 1 Families Fund grant. The contribution to our organization and community will have a measurable impact by helping us transition many more young families in Minneapolis out of homelessness and into stable housing,\u201d said Beth Holger, CEO of The Link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/><a href=\"http:\/\/grantwatch.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GrantWatch<\/a> has an entire category dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grants-filter.php?recipient_id%5B%5D=Select+All&amp;recipient_id%5B%5D=1&amp;recipient_id%5B%5D=2&amp;recipient_id%5B%5D=3&amp;category_id%5B%5D=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">housing grants<\/a>, as well as one for grants related to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grants-filter.php?recipient_id%5B%5D=1&amp;recipient_id%5B%5D=2&amp;recipient_id%5B%5D=3&amp;category_id%5B%5D=18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">homelessness<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some Facts About Homelessness <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As of January 2020, there were 580,466 people who were facing homelessness in America, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness. The majority of people experiencing homelessness are individuals (around 65%) with the rest being families with children. <meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huduser.gov\/portal\/datasets\/ahar\/2020-ahar-part-1-pit-estimates-of-homelessness-in-the-us.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress<\/a>, homelessness has actually risen for the 4th straight year. And in the state of Minnesota, the number of homeless people is 7,977, out of a population of 5,706,398.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So much of homelessness is generational and chronic. If someone struggles with housing insecurity as a child, it&#8217;s quite likely they will face similar issues as they get older. One of the most critical ways to end generational homelessness overall is to reduce the number of children who are housing insecure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>So What Will This Grant Go Toward? <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The funds from this grant will be going toward <a href=\"https:\/\/thelinkmn.org\/programs\/housing-services-division\/the-young-families-program\/\">the Link&#8217;s Young Families program<\/a>. This program is a scattered-site housing program for young families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Here are some of the things that this program offers:<\/strong> <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Housing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supportive services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As well as early childhood programming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The program works to help families move quickly from the street to shelters to stable housing. The program specifically focuses on families in Hennepin County. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Here are the requirements for a family experiencing homelessness in Hennepin County to enter this program: <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A referral by Hennepin County Coordinated Entry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be able to provide documentation of homelessness in Hennepin County on the day of intake. Proof must be a letter from the emergency shelter that one is residing at\u00a0or\u00a0from an outreach worker.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Also be capable of living independently and be\u00a0willing to participate in Rapid Re-Housing or Housing Support\u00a0Program services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>GrantWatch has similar grants to this one available on its website. Below, are five of these grants currently available that are related to homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Five Similar Grants Related to Homelessness<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In-kind grants of donated goods and services to <a href=\"https:\/\/grantwatch.com\/grant\/182024\/in-kind-grants-of-donated-goods-to-usa-organizations-to-support-needy-and-disabled-veterans.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. organizations<\/a> for distribution programs to support homeless, low-income, and disabled veterans. The types of donated goods vary but will include vital necessities like water, health and hygiene, and clothing items for veterans from all walks of life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grants to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/199362\/grants-to-california-agencies-and-public-housing-entities-to-address-the-needs-of-the-homeless.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California cities, counties, and public housing entities<\/a> to address the needs of homeless populations. Funded activities include capacity building, ensuring sustainable outcomes, housing options and direct services, and administration. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are also grants to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/200114\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-and-consumer-cooperatives-to-provide-services-to-veteran-families-experiencing-homelessness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S., Guam, US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico nonprofits<\/a> and consumer cooperatives to provide services to veteran families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The program is intended to provide eligible veteran families with outreach, case management and assistance obtaining VA and other benefits, which can include health care, financial planning, childcare, legal and fiduciary payee assistance, transportation, housing counseling and other services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In addition, there are grants to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/199798\/grants-to-vermont-nonprofits-for-profits-and-agencies-for-housing-projects-and-increased-shelter-capacity.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vermont nonprofit and for-profit <\/a>housing developers, municipal government agencies, and housing cooperatives for housing projects that benefit homeless and mixed-income individuals and families. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, there are grants available to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/162269\/grants-to-minnesota-and-wisconsin-nonprofits-to-address-homelessness.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Minnesota and Wisconsin nonprofits<\/a> to address homelessness.
