The Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded 18 Florida schools and organizations the 2019 Adult Literacy Grant. These grants support programs for adults in need of literacy assistance. Some of the programs related to adult basic education<\/a>, GED or High School Equivalency Preparation, and English Language Acquisition. Throughout the academic year, students and educators will reach their literacy goals thanks to the Adult Literacy Grants. These grants are awarded only to programs within a 20-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center. These stores are located across 44 states. These grants will support thousands of students in need of literacy education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dollar General Chief Executive Officer, Todd Vesos, said in a statement regarding the grants given: \u201cEach fall, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation proudly provides financial support to schools, libraries and nonprofit literacy organizations that help students and teachers as they head back to the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nDollar General Literacy Foundation awarded more than $172 million in grants\nover the past 26 years. The foundation was created to honor the Dollar General\nco-founder, J.L. Turner. Turner never completed formal education and was\nilliterate. The grants have affected more than 11 million lives by funding\nprograms that help individuals learn to read, learn the English language, and\ncomplete their high school equivalency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company provided youth literacy grants to over 750 schools, libraries, and nonprofits. The effect that these grants have had in the past and will have in the future of these educational<\/a> programs and the organizations that are running them is unsurmountable. Not to mention the effect on their students, which will be vast and extent for generations. As seen from their track record, the funding that Dollar General awarded these 18 Florida schools and organizations will not be the last of the assistance granted by the company to further education resources. These grants will support the programs throughout the 2019-2020 academic year.
