Too frequently, grant applications are often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/how-to-increase-your-chances-of-being-awarded-a-grant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rejected<\/a> for simple mistakes and missing items. Having a checklist should be an essential part of your process before you submit your grant proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the checklist below to make sure your application is well written, contains all the necessary supporting documents, and meets the grant criteria. You will need to allocate enough time to thoroughly review your application, and if possible, seek feedback from your peers or supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Grant Application Checklist<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>1. <strong>Guidelines and documents:<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have read all documents and know the aim of the grant program, eligibility criteria, and closing date and time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>2.<strong> Application form:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have used the correct application form and followed the process outlined in the grant guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>3. <strong>Checked my idea:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 My proposal is strong and aligns with the aim of the grant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>4. <strong>Considered my audience:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have written my grant application assuming the assessor knows nothing about my business or the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>5. <strong>Language and tone:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have used simple, positive business language (and included no jargon, vague, speculative, or negative wording).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>6. <strong>Concise:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 My answers are concise and within the required word count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>7. <strong>Targeted answers:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have not duplicated my answers and all sections have been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>8. <strong>Budget:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have outlined my project budget as required in the guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>9. <strong>Headings:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I&#8217;ve included useful headings so readers can skim the content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>10. <strong>Keywords:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I&#8217;ve included the same keywords used as in the grant guidelines and assessment criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>11.<strong> Formatting:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 The consistent formatting applied and answers are in the same sequence as the application form (if applicable).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>12. <strong>Reviewed:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have had my application thoroughly reviewed by 2 or more people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>13. <strong>Proofread:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 I have had my application proofread by 2 or more people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/>14.<strong> Final check:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25a2 YES \u25a2 NO \u2013 All information has been provided to support the application as outlined in the guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br \/><strong>See if you answer &#8216;YES&#8217; to everything above. However, if you have answered &#8216;NO&#8217; to any items, you should follow up on these missing items before submitting your application.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br \/>Once you&#8217;ve submitted your grant application, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/how-long-does-it-take-to-get-a-grant-approved\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">be patient<\/a><\/strong> while waiting to hear back from the funding source.
