Without teachers, students wouldn’t have the resources they need to learn about the world around them. However, many teachers are underpaid and underappreciated or do not have the funding they need to do this work to the best of their ability. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week which starts on May 2, we are reminding people to thank any teachers in their lives for the important work they do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some Ways to Recognize Teacher Appreciation Week<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. Donate new or gently used books to a teacher\u2019s classroom.<\/li>
  2. Record a video of your child saying thank you to their teacher and email it to them.<\/li>
  3. Send your teacher a gift card for food or classroom supplies.<\/li>
  4. Have your child make a list of the top five favorite things they learned in class this year.<\/li>
  5. Volunteer at your local school.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    2. There are also awards of up to $5,000 to high school teachers <\/a>for outstanding contributions in the field of education. Funding is to recognize exceptional educators who have exhibited dedication and commitment to preparing students for success in college and in life. <\/li>
    3. Grants of up to $5,000 are open to eligible teachers and educational personnel <\/a>for projects to improve public education and the overall learning experience for children.<\/li>
    4. In addition, grants are available to high school journalism teachers<\/a> to subsidize the cost of attending teacher workshops at an American university. <\/li>
    5. Award of $1,000 to a U.S., Canada, or International group to recognize contributions to K-12 history education<\/a>. <\/li>
    6. Scholarships to educators, school psychologists, and school counselors <\/a>to participate in a professional development program. <\/li>
    7. Grants of $750 to K-12 teachers<\/a>, community college faculty members, and students to support participation in the earth science disciplines. <\/li>
    8. Grants of up to $750 to music teachers<\/a> for professional development activities. Funding is to support private and public studies and projects to help increase the applicant’s teaching and performing skills.<\/li>
    9. In-kind grants of essential school supplies to U.S. teachers in underserved schools<\/a>. With each Supply A Teacher box delivered, a teacher receives items they need to fuel a full semester of active learning for their entire class of students, whether they are teaching in the classroom or via distance learning. <\/li>
    10. Grants to teachers of grades 6-9 <\/a>to support participation in a STEM competition with their students. Funding is to enhance STEM education through self-discovery, teamwork, and real-life applications.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
