To recognize the day,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> GrantWatch<\/a> is taking the time to talk about the importance of senior assistance programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><meta charset=\"utf-8\"\/>Senior citizens account for a major part of society, and it is important to care for them as they get older. These people are our parents, grandparents, former teachers, neighbors, and doctors. They have put in the work and contributed to society and now it is time that society gives back to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Look at the Issues<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A person is considered a senior citizen if they have reached the age of 62. However, when it comes to eligibility for federal programs this number can differ. Some programs require people to reach the age of 65 before being eligible for assistance. While the official age requirement to be considered a senior citizen may vary, the issues the elderly population faces remain the same. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many seniors are struggling financially. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncoa.org\/article\/get-the-facts-on-economic-security-for-seniors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Council on Aging<\/a>, more than 15 million seniors are economically insecure. These seniors also face a number of health issues that impact their quality of life. These issues can include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Hearing loss<\/li><li>Cataracts and refractive errors<\/li><li>Back and neck pain<\/li><li>Osteoarthritis<\/li><li>Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease<\/li><li>Diabetes<\/li><li>Depression<\/li><li>As well as, Dementia<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Senior Assistance Programs<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Medicaid:<\/strong> This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicaid.gov\/\">federal and state-run health program<\/a> offered for senior citizens 65 and older in the United States. Medicaid can act as primary healthcare as well as supplementary for those who already have another insurance plan. The programs offered through Medicaid can also include all-inclusive plans that feature everything from medical care to nursing home care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AmeriCorps Seniors:<\/strong> This organization provides a variety of services to seniors who need them, <a href=\"https:\/\/americorps.gov\/serve\/americorps-seniors\">including companionship<\/a> for seniors who need some company in everyday life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meals on Wheels<\/strong>: Every year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org\/americaletsdolunch\/faqs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Meals on Wheels <\/a>provides millions of home-cooked meals to seniors, aged 60 and above. For home-bound seniors, meals are delivered. The organization also hosts group meals for those who can attend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Senior Living:<\/strong> This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seniorliving.org\/research\/government-aid\/\">database that includes listings <\/a>for every type of senior living within the United States. It features everything from retirement communities to nursing home options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important that organizations focused on helping seniors get the funding they need to continue their good work. Seniors are a wealth of knowledge and experience. They may be nearing the end of their time, but they have been through moments in history that others can only try to imagine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GrantWatch wants to make sure that all seniors have access to programs that can help them. For this reason, the site is sharing five grants below that are available for nonprofits that help seniors or through programs or research projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5 Grants that Benefit Senior Citizens <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Grants to nonprofits for projects, programs, and services for older adults. Funding is to improve the lives of <a href=\"https:\/\/grantwatch.com\/grant\/183073\/grants-to-usa-canada-and-international-nonprofits-for-initiatives-that-benefit-older-adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elderly Jewish individuals<\/a>. <\/li><li>There are grants available to nonprofits for professional<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/192502\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-for-professional-training-and-education-projects-for-those-working-with-older-adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> training and education projects<\/a> for those working with older adults. Eligible projects are those that have national reach across the U.S. or regional relevance within the states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Wisconsin, or Florida. <\/li><li>There are also grants available to nonprofits for projects that address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/180281\/grants-to-usa-nonprofits-for-projects-that-address-policy-issues-for-older-adults.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">policy issues for older adults<\/a>.
