According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women and one in four men will experience some form of physical violence in their lifetime by an intimate partner. These numbers are shocking but, more than that, they are proof that something needs to be done. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Can You Do?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which kicks off in October, it is important that we take the time to talk about what can be done to help support victims of violence. Currently, there are many ways to observe the month and make a difference in your community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are just a few ways you can take part in Domestic Violence Awareness Month:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Educate yourself and take the time to learn about the seriousness of this issue. <\/li>
  2. Wear purple \u2014 the color for the Month.<\/li>
  3. Have a conversation with your kids about healthy relationships.<\/li>
  4. Host a drive for clothes, paper goods, and toiletries, to donate to a shelter.<\/li>
  5. Invite a guest speaker to talk to your community about domestic violence.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    GrantWatch<\/a> is also honoring the month by sharing several grants that are available for organizations that help domestic violence victims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In many domestic violence cases, there are a number of factors that keep the person who is suffering from abuse from leaving their abuser. As a result, it is that much more crucial that nonprofits and groups have the funding they need to work with these victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Organizations often offer workers extensive training to help give these people the\u00a0resources<\/a>\u00a0they need to finally leave and get help. They have the education and the knowledge to handle the situation in the best possible way. Without these organizations, many victims would never find a way out of their current situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Grants for Organizations that Help Victims of Violence<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    1. Grants are available to USA nonprofit shelters to accommodate the pets of domestic violence victims<\/a>. Funding is for operational support or capital improvements specifically related to the maintenance and housing of pets. <\/li>
    2. There are also grants open to public agencies and nonprofits for programs to deliver services related to domestic, family, and dating violence. <\/a><\/li>
    3. USA tribes and nonprofits can apply for grants for domestic and dating violence and victim services<\/a>.<\/li>
    4. Additionally, grants are available to USA, Canada, and International IHE students and faculty for research related to the safety of children and youth<\/a>. <\/li>
    5. Funding is also available to USA nonprofit coalitions to support victims of domestic violence<\/a>. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
