Throughout history, there has been an <a aria-label=\"emphasis on art (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/cat\/2\/arts-and-culture-grants.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emphasis on art<\/a> being able to be seen through the sphere of patronage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An art gallery in Ann Arbor Michigan has received a grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation that will allow them to support local programs, exhibitions, and publications. This would allow for <a aria-label=\"community (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grantnews.com\/category\/community\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">community<\/a> programs to be funded. The gallery chosen for this $80,000 grant is the Stamps Gallery in Ann Arbor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stamps Gallery, which is part of the <a aria-label=\"University of Michigan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/umich.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Michigan<\/a> Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design has several functions which include presenting original exhibitions of local artists as well as educational programs. The goal is to shine a spotlight specifically on exhibitions and programs that use creative outlets and work to enact social change. This is incredibly important as art can be an outlet and a medium to be able to speak in a way that words cannot normally express.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first grant that has been received by the Stamps School of Art and Design\u2019s gallery since it opened its doors in 2017.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what Truly Render, who is a spokesperson for Stamps School of Art and Design had to say about the gallery receiving this grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award will allow Stamps Gallery to provide artists with better artist fees for exhibitions, public programs, and publications,\u201d Render said. \u201cThe funds support upcoming exhibitions at Stamps Gallery in 2020 and 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the specific functions of this grant will be to fund the <a href=\"https:\/\/stamps.umich.edu\/exhibitions\/detail\/envision\">Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative<\/a>, which is a statewide art competition designed to support contemporary artist\u2019s development who live and work in Michigan.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grantnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/warhol-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2875\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/warhol-2.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/warhol-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/warhol-2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Director of Stamps Gallery, Srimoyee Mitra spoke on the gallery receiving this grant:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant is a testament to the Stamps Gallery\u2019s exhibitions and programs, which foster vibrant and inclusive experiences for presentation, discussion, and inquiry into the urgent questions and concerns of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upcoming exhibitions that will be shown at the Stamps Gallery will include topics like migration and stateless people, as well as other hot-button topics like environmental justice and climate change. Other topics being hit n by future exhibitions also include artificial intelligence and automation in contemporary art, and feminist cultural critique.&nbsp;These have been more and more prominent amongst recent modern art themes.
