It&#8217;s been nearly 40 years since the country first recognized the need to dedicate an entire month to spreading awareness of this disease. According to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breastcancer.org\/about-breast-cancer\/breast-cancer-awareness-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Breastcancer.org<\/a><\/strong>, breast cancer impacts one in eight women in the United States and 2.3 million women worldwide. It doesn&#8217;t matter who you are or where you come from, the disease does not discriminate. It\u2019s important to know the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/cancer\/breast\/basic_info\/symptoms.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warning signs<\/a><\/strong> and assess your risk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It stands to reason then, that the best medicine is prevention. The goal this month is to encourage screenings to prevent breast cancer.  To that end, most doctors recommend self-examinations about once a month. In addition, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/screening\/american-cancer-society-guidelines-for-the-early-detection-of-cancer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Cancer Society<\/a><\/strong> states women over 40 should consider having a mammogram once a year. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Financial Hardship Brought On by Breast Cancer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GrantWatch<\/a><\/strong> believes that creating a financial support system is also very important. Keeping up with growing medical bills, utilities, house payments, transportation costs, and other bills, while fighting this disease, needs to remain manageable. Most can\u2019t afford the out-of-pocket costs that come along with the diagnosis. In turn, this causes stress for sufferers as well as loved ones.&nbsp; GrantWatch may have a possible solution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Finding Grants For Breast Cancer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know there are a variety of grants available to help with breast cancer-related issues? Grants are waiting to help individuals with expenses related to treatment. Additionally, there is funding to help nonprofits in areas such as research and support for the disease. You can find these grants and more on the GrantWatch search database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>What can you do to show your support for anyone living with a diagnosis?<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GrantWatch<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <\/a>has some suggestions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Donate items or money to organizations that support the cause to show your awareness.<\/li><li>Hold a fundraiser to show support. You can help with chores, errands, or driving to treatment.<\/li><li>Be a friend to someone with the disease. Offer a resting shoulder or a listening ear. You may be surprised how far emotional support can go to help.<\/li><li>Volunteer your time at a nonprofit that supports people impacted by the disease.<\/li><li>Support yourself! Find out your risk, and see if screening is recommended for you.<\/li><li>Wear your pink ribbon with pride; it will help you spread awareness.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Grants<\/strong> f<strong>or Cancer and Health<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Grants are available to New Jersey nonprofit organizations in eligible counties for programs and projects that address breast cancer among<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/201218\/grants-to-new-jersey-nonprofits-in-eligible-counties-to-address-breast-cancer-among-underserved-populations.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vulnerable populations<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li><li>There is funding of $500 to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/197643\/grants-to-usa-bipoc-breast-cancer-patients-and-survivors-for-medical-and-financial-support.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>BIPOC women<\/strong><\/a> with a current or previous breast cancer diagnosis for medical and financial assistance.<\/li><li>Grants are also available of $75,000 to New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut institutions to support<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/190387\/grants-to-new-jersey-new-york-and-connecticut-institutions-to-support-cancer-surgery-fellowships-for-doctors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">breast cancer surgery<\/a><\/strong> fellowships for doctors.<\/li><li>In addition, there are opportunities available to New York and Connecticut agencies and institutions in eligible areas to support outreach and case management services for local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/190389\/grants-to-new-york-and-connecticut-agencies-and-institutions-in-eligible-areas-to-support-services-for-breast-cancer-patients.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>underserved breast cancer patients<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><li>Also, there are grants available to New York nonprofit organizations, agencies, IHEs, and tribes for projects and activities related to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/181515\/grants-to-new-york-nonprofits-agencies-ihes-and-tribes-for-breast-health-education-and-support.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>breast health<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><li>Financial assistance is available to cancer patients for living expenses during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/192348\/financial-assistance-to-usa-cancer-patients-for-living-expenses-during-cancer-treatments.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>cancer treatments<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><li>There is also funding available to individuals in the<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/207776\/grants-to-usa-bartenders-to-mitigate-financial-physical-and-emotional-hardship-due-to-cancer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hospitality industry<\/a><\/strong> facing hardship due to events or emergencies related to cancer.<\/li><li>Finally, there are grants for Kentucky nonprofit organizations in eligible areas for programs and projects that improve the local quality of life. This includes raising awareness and funds for women\u2019s health programs, specifically those targeting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/197812\/grants-to-kentucky-nonprofits-in-eligible-areas-to-improve-the-local-quality-of-life.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>breast and ovarian cancer<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>As shown above, there are many ways you and your organization can support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
