The Golden Neighborhood Homeownership Program is an income-driven community program to help people enter the ranks of first-time homeowners. GrantWatch<\/strong><\/a> strongly believes in promoting these kinds of opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the Golden Neighborhood Homeownership Program?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The GNHP Program provides increased opportunities for low and moderate income families to PURCHASE their first home in Jersey City! This program provides financial assistance with down payments, as well as closing closets for eligible First time Homebuyers.<\/p>

Eligible GNHP homebuyers may receive up to 10% of the purchase price for the down payment on a home, plus up to $10,000 for closing costs.<\/p>Jersey City NJ.gov, “Golden City Homeownership Program<\/em>“<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Designed to help combat the challenge of overcoming dramatically rising rents, the Golden Neighborhood Homeownership Program initiative gives residents the chance to succeed in achieving homeownership where it would otherwise not be possible to accomplish. Last year, residents began submitting applications for this lottery program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a great opportunity to get the community engaged and educated about homeownership in our city,\u201d said Mayor Fulop. \u201cOur goal is to create and preserve affordable housing while also helping residents achieve homeownership where they may not otherwise be able to afford their own family home. Below is a list from GrantWatch from its Housing<\/strong><\/a> category of grants currently available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/strong>Housing-Related Grants<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. Grants to nonprofits to improve the quality of life<\/a><\/strong> for local residents. Funding is intended for programs and projects addressing the following areas of focus: human needs, health, education, and community enhancement.<\/li>
  2. In addition, grants to nonprofits and public agencies in eligible locations for projects and programs in the focus areas of education and housing<\/a><\/strong>. Applicants must submit a letter of inquiry prior to submitting a full proposal.\u00a0<\/li>
  3. Next, nonprofit and for-profit developers can apply for funding to provide affordable housing<\/a><\/strong> to impoverished households. The purpose is to increase the supply of safe, sanitary, and affordable rental housing for exceptionally low-income households.<\/li>
  4. Grants to eligible nonprofits and municipalities for housing-related projects\/programs<\/strong><\/a>. Funding is for a a wide range of activities, including the development, construction, and rehabilitation of affordable housing, down payment assistance, and scattered-site acquisition of affordable housing.<\/li>
  5. There are also grants to nonprofits, for-profit housing developers, and government agencies for housing projects that increase shelter capacity<\/strong><\/a>. Projects are to benefit homeless individuals and mixed-income households in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis. Funding is to develop affordable housing that responds to the negative economic effects of the pandemic by providing assistance to impacted households and communities.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Additional Housing-Related Grants<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    1. Also, grants of up to $5,000<\/strong><\/a> to nonprofits to promote initiatives focused on housing solutions. Funding supports organizations that emphasize affordable housing through education, development or repair.<\/li>
    2. Grants to property owners of multi-family rental housing property and limited equity cooperatives for building and equipment repairs. Interested applicants must meet with staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to support the repairs of unsafe structures<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>
    3. Grants and loans to local governments, port authorities, economic development authorities, and housing and redevelopment authorities to for revitalization projects<\/strong><\/a>. Funding is to redevelop industrial, residential, or commercial sites. Programs are to provide grants and loans to assist communities with the costs of redeveloping blighted properties and putting land back into productive use.<\/li>
    4. In addition, in-kind services and grants to individuals and families in eligible locations to address urgent needs within the community. Grant funds may be used for housing, utilities, food,<\/a><\/strong> burials, rent and mortgage payments, and other critical needs. Assistance is available to residents of El Paso County.<\/li>
    5. Lastly, contracts for services to nonprofits to develop permanent supportive rental housing for low-income people with disabilities<\/strong><\/a>. Funding is to offer individuals with disabilities (ages 18 years and older) the opportunity to live independently and with dignity within an integrated environment. Goal is also to provide access to appropriate and voluntary supportive services. In addition, the program is to provide project rental subsidies to maintain ongoing affordability over the next 40 years.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
