AFG is one of three grant programs that constitute the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency&#8217;s (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantnews.com\/devices-that-could-monitor-toxic-chemicals-could-be-game-changers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FEMA<\/a>) focus on enhancing the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AFG-S Program accomplishes this by providing grants to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated emergency medical service (NAEMS) organizations, and State Fire Training Academies (SFTA) for critical Personal Protective Equipment<strong> <\/strong>and supplies needed to prevent, prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grantnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Firefighter2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"AFG-S\" class=\"wp-image-3598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Firefighter2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Firefighter2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Firefighter2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grantnews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Firefighter2.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Priority consideration will be provided for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Eye Protection &#8211; Appropriately <g class=\"gr_ gr_28 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"28\" data-gr-id=\"28\">fitted,<\/g> indirectly vented goggles or single-use disposable face shield that fully covers the front and sides of the face.<\/li><li>Isolation Gowns Nonsterile, single-use fluid-resistant, and impermeable disposable patient isolation gown.<\/li><li>Protective Coveralls &#8211; 360-degree protection of the entire body, including the back, lower legs, and feet.<\/li><li>Gloves single-use, disposable patient examination gloves.<\/li><li>Footwear Covers Single-use, disposable medical footwear covers.<\/li><li>Respirators &#8211; Any NIOSH-approved particulate respirator (i.e., N-95 or higher-level respirator). Includes the purchase of filters appropriate for use.<\/li><li>Surgical Type Face Masks &#8211; a loose-fitting, single-use disposable physical barrier between the mouth and nose of the wearer to allow fire and EMS personnel to meet CDC recommendations and\/or state mandates for face covering when in a public setting other than direct patient contact.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other eligible supplies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These supplies are considered a lower priority than items listed above. Examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Decontamination supplies and services for PPE, station-quarters, and vehicles.<\/li><li>Replacement High-Efficiency Particulate Air filters and other types of disposable filtration supplies used on EMS respiratory and\/or ventilator equipment.<\/li><li>Personally-issued antiseptic hand washes, antiseptic hand rubs such as alcohol-based hand sanitizers, foams or gels, and reasonable refill supply<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional details including application details are available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantwatch.com\/grant\/189503\/grants-to-usa-ems-organizations-fire-departments-and-fire-academies-for-equipment-and-supplies-to-address-the-coronavirus-covid-crisis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GrantWatch.com<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is AFG-S?
