The U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded Spring Hill College $3.2 million in grant funding for scholarships to Nursing students from underrepresented minorities who require financial aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The grant that is being awarded to help these students is called a (HRSA) Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) Grant and is awarded to ensure a more diverse workforce. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scholarships will be awarded to as many as 45 nursing students per year for five years. One of the goals of HRSA awarding these scholarship grants is to increase the number of qualified health professionals in underserved communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Generally the SDS grant are intended to go to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who either: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

a) Have a financial need or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

b) Plan on working in medically underserved communities themselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring Hill College President E. Joseph Lee II, PhD had this to say in announcing the grant being awarded: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our nursing program has been named the best in the State of Alabama for four-year programs,\u201d We know that providing our nursing students with top-notch instruction and programs \u2013 alongside our commitment to our Jesuit, Catholic ideals \u2013 is vital. This scholarship opportunity will allow Spring Hill College to continue educating nurses committed to healing.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
