The World Series is baseball at its finest. In case you haven’t heard, the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series just concluded. We’re excited to add our congratulations to the LA Dodgers as this year’s World Series Champions. They beat the mighty NY Yankees to claim their eighth World Series title! Baseball is considered one of the most popular sports in athletics, with many different levels of play, ranging from Pee-Wee leagues (beginning at age 5), to high school and college. Then, for those with extraordinary baseball talent and commitment, it’s on to semi-pro and\/or professional teams – the Major Leagues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sport of baseball<\/strong><\/em> was officially created by Abner Doubleday in 1907, but actually has beginnings much earlier, as far back as 1839, even before the Civil War! Baseball is often been referred to America’s Game<\/em> and is also referred to as our National Pastime<\/em>. Usually played in October, which is also the case this year, the World Series had a viewership of more than thirteen million people<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n

Whether it’s baseball, football, hockey, swimming or basketball, there are many situations where people, especially kids, don’t have the necessary funds for training, facilities, and equipment to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulations to Freddie Freeman MVP, and the Entire LA Dodgers<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

“We were like just get one, chip away, chip away,\u201d said the MVP first baseman, Freddie Freeman for the Los Angeles Dodgers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That is what we say about winning grants for your organization. Win a small one and keep going to another and then another and see your organization grow to meet the needs of the community. That’s how you become a winner. According to an interview on ABC, Chelsea Freeman said of her husband, “He’s such a perfectionist, so he doesn’t think he performed as well as he would have liked to, so for him to finally go out on this note with all the things that he’s doing, just absolutely incredible.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grants for Baseball and Other Sports<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

1. Sports Activities for Individuals with Disabilities!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grants to individuals with disabilities for costs to participate in sports activities. Funding supports training, coaching, competition costs, travel, and equipment purchases and maintenance. Eligible applicants include individuals with permanent physical disabilities that impair mobility, affect the neuromuscular system, or impair balance or motor control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Increased Safety of Outdoor Play Spaces!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are grants to schools and nonprofits serving children and youth for projects to increase the safety of outdoor play spaces. Funding will be for expenses to install shade structures. A permanent sign will be placed at the shade structure featuring sun-safety tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Funding for Underserved Adult Swim Lessons!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition, grants of up to $5,000 to swim instructors or swim facilities for programs to provide free or low-cost opportunities for underserved and underrepresented adult populations to acquire basic swimming skills. The purpose of the program is to make more adults safer around water, with the goal of a reduction in adult drowning risk through education, financial support, and community outreach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Fitness Programs to Improve Children’s Health!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grants of up to $10,000 to nonprofits for programs to improve the health of children and youth. Funding is for programs to increase their well-being through physical activity. The goal of the program is to improve their lives by living a more active lifestyle. The Foundation has made a commitment to reducing child obesity by offering children and youth the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Free or Low-Cost Swim Instruction for Youth!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are grants for swim lessons to be provided to youth from underserved backgrounds. The program’s purpose is for programming for underserved and underrepresented youth up to age 19 who otherwise would not have access to swim instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Promoting Ultimate Disc Sport Youth Participation!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition, grants of up to $5,000 to individuals, nonprofits, and disc-related sports organizations to promote youth participation in disc sports. The program’s goal is to bolster and support local community efforts to expand Ultimate Frisbee (“Ultimate”) youth sport participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Lighting for Community Recreation Areas!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Grants to organizations to provide lighting for recreation areas in underserved communities. Funding is to improve the health and development of children\/[youth] by providing improved\/enhance(ment) to make sports fields more accessible and safer, and to be able to extend the number of hours that children\/[youth] and adults can utilize the{se} {recreation} facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Funding for After-School Athletics Programs!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are grants to middle schools for after-school athletics programs for students in grades 6-8. Funding is for acquisition of sports equipment, safety equipment, and uniforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Return Severely Injured to Sports Participation!<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Also, Grants of up to $25,000 to individuals who have suffered severe injuries to provide adaptive equipment and other costs for their recovery. Funding is for one of the following injuries: while participating in sports {activities}; veterans while serving; and others who have had a life-changing experience. The goal is for them to {continue} to [once again] participate in sports activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Grants to Nonprofits for Archery Instruction!<\/strong><\/a> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, grants to nonprofits for archery instruction. Funding supports archery instruction at schools, Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs), and sports clubs. The program’s purpose is to further participation in archery activities and for inspiration to learn and excel at the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congrats again to the LA Dodgers for the latest addition to their impressive number of World Series titles.
