Read on to learn how you can help the urban farming movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is an Urban Farming Project?  <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Urban farming is the cultivation of agriculture in urban areas. Urban farming comes in so many forms. This includes&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/extension.oregonstate.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/12281\/ediblelandscaping.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">edible landscaping<\/a><\/strong>, rooftop green spaces, hydroponic and aeroponic gardens, and vertical farming. According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nal.usda.gov\/farms-and-agricultural-production-systems\/urban-agriculture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA<\/strong>)<\/a>,&nbsp;there are four types of urban farming. These categories are community gardens, community farms, commercial farms, and institutional farms and gardens. Urban farming is a powerful movement, and it\u2019s trending right now. Community gardens and edible landscapes are popping up all over the place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How Urban Farming Projects Impact Our Communities<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Research shows that urban agriculture increases access to healthy foods for urban communities. In truth, urban agriculture projects are helping us build a healthier future! Urban farming projects impact their communities by increasing the public\u2019s awareness of climate change, food security, biodiversity, pollinators, nutrition, and more. Urban farms also enrich the community by hosting plant swaps or other community-driven programs, providing valuable resources, and building community in urban neighborhoods. Equally important, urban agriculture adds green spaces in disadvantaged areas, reducing the effects of climate change while providing healthy food to the community.
