Millions of Americans are highly impacted by the over-prescribing of opioids over past decades. The result is many fall into addiction. Therefore, many states have declared a state of emergency to receive federal funding to combat the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is especially true in the State of Florida, where then-Governor <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.floridahealth.gov\/newsroom\/2017\/05\/050317-health-emergency-opioid-epidemic.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rick Scott declared a public health emergency regarding the opioid crisis in 2017<\/a>. And now, the University of Florida-Jacksonville has received a grant from the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samhsa.gov\/find-help\/national-helpline\" target=\"_blank\">Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration<\/a>, a branch of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services. This grant will go towards the development of alternatives to opioids for pain relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mitigating the Opioid Crisis by Creating Alternatives <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of this grant award is to research and implement alternatives to opioids for pain relief. The team leading this research hopes to offer a wide menu of options to participants. These options will ensure that both doctors and patients have more pain relievers to choose from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The menu will include treatments like aromatherapy, lidocaine patches, and menthol gel. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration&#8217;s Emergency Department Alternatives to Opioids Demonstration Program is funding this program. This program works to fund similar alternative programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding opioid alternatives is a focus at institutions all around the country. This is why then-President<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/10\/26\/us\/politics\/trump-opioid-crisis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Trump declared the opioid crisis a national emergency<\/a> in 2017. And, when Rick Scott declared a statewide emergency in 2017, it included provisions that supplied first responders with a drug called Naloxone, to revive those who had overdosed on opioids. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/drugoverdose\/epidemic\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The CDC estimates that 66,395 Americans died from an overdose in 2018<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GrantWatch Lists Grants to Help Organizations Combat Health Crisises <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At GrantWatch, we understand how important it is for organizations and agencies to have the correct information on listed grants .
