Hands Across Decatur
Hands Across Decatur is an all-volunteer program located in a stand-alone facility (brick & mortar) building with the sole purpose of providing emergency services, a warming or cooling center when needed with nobody being turned away. This is a safe, well-lit facility that is climate controlled both safe for the unhoused adults and children. This is not a shelter but rather, a resource center with hot meals provided up to two times per day and to-go lunch system in place, using food pantry items and lunches funded by volunteers – as supplies are available. At this facility, both adults and children may receive appropriate clothing based on weather conditions, access to personal hygiene items, sleeping bags, tents and has a shower facility. When available, medical care is also provided by a volunteer licensed physician.
