and Agencies for Youth and Economic Development

GrantWatch ID#: 175156
Agency Type:

Foundation / Corporation

Peter Kiewit Foundation

Grants to Nebraska and Western Iowa nonprofits and government agencies for programs that benefit local communities. Applicants must contact the Foundation's staff before applying. Priority will be given to programs in the areas of youth development and education, economic development, community growth, and new opportunities. The Foundation will invest in proven and promising programs, systemic solutions, capital projects, planning and capacity building, and policy development.

The Foundation supports efforts primarily in the Omaha metro area and across the entire state of Nebraska. They also make grants in the portion of Western Iowa within 100 miles of Omaha.

Impact Areas:

1) Youth Pathways to Success: Increase the number of youth who progress in their education and secure meaningful employment.

2) Economic Growth and Opportunity: Bolster a vital, diverse and growing economy that advances individual and community prosperity.

3) Strong and Vibrant Communities: Support local efforts to build thriving communities.

4) Emergent Issues and Opportunities: The foundation also considers requests outside of our three primary areas of focus to fund projects with high potential for impact and learning

Nonprofit organizations with a valid 501(c)(3) status and units of government are eligible to apply.

– Non-profit organizations may apply for a maximum of 50% of the total project
– Units of government (tax-supported entities) may apply for a maximum of 25% of the total project

The Foundation will not provide funding to individuals, for-profit businesses, other private foundations, individual K-12 schools, or churches.

The Foundation does not provide funding to support debt retirement, operational deficits, endowments, general fund drives/annual appeals, event sponsorships, or routine public works projects.

An applicant may submit up to two funding applications (for separate projects) in any 12-month period. If an application for a project is declined, another application for that same project cannot be re-submitted for one year.

There are no limits on the size or duration of the grants that may be requested. However, while the foundation does consider and has made grant commitments for multiple years, it is not the practice of the foundation to provide permanent or continuous support for a project, program, or organization.

All applicants are required to speak with a program officer to confirm eligibility to apply and to discuss the proposed project prior to submitting an application.

It is to an applicant’s advantage to have developed at least a portion of the matching funds needed before submitting a request.

Applicants will be notified by December 31.
