Addressing Domestic Violence: Grants Help Meet the Challenge Head On

Addressing Domestic Violence means raising awareness. More than that, though, it’s about taking action. With increased media attention shining a spotlight on this serious issue, communities must come together to support survivors and prevent future abuse. Nonprofits, shelters, and advocacy organizations play a vital role in these efforts. Fortunately, grant funding is available to help individuals and organizations expand services, provide safe housing, and offer education and prevention programs.

Grants That Address Domestic Violence

Assist Domestic Violence Survivors Escape Abuse with Their Pets

Grants of up to $60,000 to nonprofit domestic violence and animal care organizations to assist domestic violence survivors escape abuse, together with their pets. The funding will be for pet foster care programs, construction and renovation of housing for pets, temporary boarding for pets, and other services. The funds will also be for both routine and emergency veterinary care. Requests will be from coordinated partnerships between domestic violence and animal care organizations.

Conduct Research Addressing Incidents of Violence

There is a grant of $25,000 to a PhD student in their final year of study for research addressing incidents of violence within a range of areas, including domestic violence. The purpose of the program would be to lead to policies designed to reduce violent occurrences.

Find Solutions for Domestic Violence Victims

Also, grants of up to $20,000 to nonprofits to specifically address issues affecting immigrants. Priority consideration will be for organizations providing innovative solutions for victims of domestic violence. The goal of the program is to support the well-being of low-income immigrants, advance immigrant welfare, and ultimately assist immigrants to become valued and productive members of society.

Women’s Shelters to Support Survivors of Domestic Abuse

Grants of $20,000 to women’s shelters to provide services and support for women and children who have experienced abusive situations. The funding is to assist organizations working to provide a safe, violence-free environment for abuse survivors. The goal of the program is to empower women to live a life free from abuse.

Accommodate the Pets of Victims of Domestic Abuse

There are grants to nonprofit shelters to also accommodate pets when providing housing for victims of domestic violence. The funding will be for operational support or capital improvements specifically for the maintenance and housing of pets. Grants will also be for nonprofit animal shelters that have a working relationship with domestic violence shelters to provide housing for the pets of victims of domestic abuse.

Improve the Lives of Disadvantaged Children

In addition, grants and in-kind support to grassroots nonprofits and individuals to advocate for disadvantaged children and youth. The funding is for small, innovative organizations to address the needs of children and youth to ensure that young people live free from gender-based violence and exploitation.

Financial Assistance for Pets of Abuse Survivors

Financial assistance for individuals for pet housing and veterinary care while they are residing in a domestic violence shelter. Costs associated with boarding, such as necessary vaccinations, will be covered. The purpose of the program is to enable victims of domestic violence to escape abuse without having to leave their pets behind.

Programs Benefiting Children and Families

Lastly, grants to nonprofits for projects and programs benefiting children and families. The funding will be for activities addressing domestic violence, including assault, and organizations benefiting children. The Foundation supports organizations and programs that build awareness, offer solutions, and address the needs of children and families to live healthy, safe and joy-filled lives free of domestic violence and sexual assault.
