Everything You Need to Know About Walmart’s Spark Good Program for Nonprofits

Many major companies have programs in place to ‘give back’ to nonprofits. However, there are so many programs out there, some tend to get lost in the mix. For this reason, GrantWatch is highlighting one program that does a lot of good for nonprofit organizations. If your nonprofit doesn’t know about Walmart’s Spark Good Program, now is the time to learn more about the resources this program offers.

What Is Walmart’s Spark Good Program?

Walmart’s Spark Good Program is a digital giving platform for associates and customers to support causes they care about. The platform includes many opportunities for nonprofits to increase awareness for their causes.

“Last year, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $1.5 billion in cash and in-kind donations to organizations around the world,” said Erin Hogue, senior director of associate and customer engagement at Walmart.

The program has also become a vital part of Walmart’s efforts to encourage employees to volunteer their time to these nonprofits.

As reported by Walmart, more than 18,000 of the corporation’s associates volunteered more than 356,000 hours in 2022 alone.

What giving options are available on the portal?
  • Round Up – Spark Good Round Up is a program that allows customers – either in person or by using the Walmart app – to ’round up’ (increase) their purchase total to the nearest dollar at checkout. Individuals can then direct the money donated to a nonprofit of their choice.
  • Registry – Another option nonprofits have through the portal is to set up a registry with a list of items the nonprofit needs. Customers can then view this list and purchase items to donate to the nonprofit making the request.
  • Request Space – By using the portal, nonprofits can reserve space in front of their local Walmart store to raise funds.
  • Grants – Nonprofits can also apply for grants through Walmart and Sam’s Club programs to help their local communities.
How to sign up for the Spark Good Program?

Any nonprofits interested in participating in the program must first be ‘verified’ (as legitimate) through FrontDoor, a provider of third-party verifications that works with Walmart. Once verified, the nonprofit uses the email address verified by FrontDoor to set up an account at Walmart.com. Then they can access the Spark Good portal.

There are steps involved to complete the verification process. First, an organization provides its IRS determination letter and current bank account information. Other additional information or interviews may also be required. If you or your nonprofit have any other questions about the program, they can reach out by email to sparkgoodsupport@walmart.com.

How can I help if I am not a nonprofit?

If you are not a nonprofit but still want to participate in Walmart’s Spark Good Program – don’t worry! There’s still a way to help. Anyone interested in supporting nonprofits on the portal can go to Walmart’s Registry. On this page, individuals can identify charities currently registered through the portal and find nonprofits in their area. After that, they can donate items to the charity and/or direct the contribution to the Round Up program at checkout.
