Grants ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 to USA medical, academic, and nonprofit research institutions for resources and personnel to build institutional capacity for childhood cancer research. Applicants must submit an LOI prior to applying. Funding is intended to support clinical research associates and to help research facilities hire appropriate personnel and acquire equipment in order to broaden participation in clinical trials. Preference is given to institutions with high needs and low philanthropic support from other sources in geographical areas where St. Baldrick’s funds are raised.
Institutions that have not received other St. Baldrick’s Foundation funding for at least one year are preferred, as are facilities located where St. Baldrick’s funds are raised, especially where the institution is involved. Preference is given to institutions that serve populations that have limited access to participation in clinical trials.
Infrastructure grants are designed to provide an infusion of funds to enable an institution to acquire the personnel (i.e., a clinical research associate) or resources it needs to reach its potential in broader clinical trial participation. The applicant should indicate how ongoing personnel costs will be funded in future years.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds biomedical research to better understand the causes of pediatric cancers and to advance its prevention, treatment, and cure. The main output of this research is new knowledge. To ensure this knowledge can be accessed, read, applied, and built upon in fulfillment of our goals, St. Baldrick’s Foundation encourages researchers to share data with the research community in accordance with the NIH policy on data sharing and expects its grantees to publish their findings, including but not limited to publication in peer reviewed journals.
