Grants ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 per year (for up to five years) to U.S. non-profits in multiple states that develop new and innovative programs that address one of the following areas: (a) environmental research that will help prevent, reduce, and/or eliminate water degradation; (b) music programs that preserve culture; (c) research into prevention of and treatment for childhood illnesses; (d) programs that enable youth to think, create, and communicate effectively; (e) programs that support and promote high achievement in music, science, and literature; and (f) programs that enable economically challenged women to enter and remain in the workplace (e.g. on site day care centers for women in the workplace; job training programs, and/or language and leadership skills development programs).
Through this grant program, the Heineman Foundation intends to provide seed money to start-up projects and new projects within existing organizations.

Although applicants from other areas are not excluded, applicants from those areas should be aware that their chances for funding are remote.
Preference will be given to organizations that have not previously received funding.
