Grant Description
Grants to USA non-commercial educational public radio stations to provide quality public service programming to their communities. Funding is intended for stations to expand the scope and quality of services to local communities. Grants must be used by station recipients for programming expenses and general station operations. Approximately 25 percent of the CSG must be used exclusively for the acquisition, production, promotion, and/or distribution of national programming.

Priority status will be given to eligible Sole Service applicants, eligible Minority Audience Service Station applicants, and applicants providing the first public radio service in their coverage area. CPB will accept a limited number of stations into the Radio CSG Program during CPB’s FY 2023 grant year, contingent upon receipt of its federal appropriation at its current level and based on current radio CSG policy.

Unrestricted CSG expenditures must fall into one of the following seven categories, which include salaries and benefits for personnel engaged in those activities.

  1. Programming, Production, and Services include Programming and Production, Educational Programs, and Educational Outreach Activities
  2. Broadcasting, Transmission, and Distribution
  3. Program Information and Promotion: Informing the viewing or listening public of available program services.
  4. Fundraising and Membership Development: Activities to persuade others to contribute money, securities, time, materials, or facilities to the station.
  5. Underwriting and Grant Solicitation: Soliciting program underwriting funds and general support grants from foundations, corporations, and governments.
  6. Management and General: Supervising and controlling overall day-to-day operations, accounting, and office service activities.
  7. Purchase, Rehabilitation, or Improvement of Capital Assets
