Grants to Colorado nonprofit organizations and government agencies in eligible counties for programs in the areas of culture and science. Applicants must contact program staff prior to submitting an application. Funding is intended to support projects and activities in the focus areas of performing arts, cultural history, visual arts, natural history, and natural sciences. The primary purpose of this fund is to enlighten and entertain the general public through productions, presentations, exhibitions, and preservation activities. Eligible applicants serve residents in the seven-county metro Denver area, including Boulder, Jefferson, Denver, Broomfield, Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas Counties.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

An eligible organization:
- Is a 501(c)3 nonprofit incorporated with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office OR an agency of local government that has a cultural sub-unit.
- Has been in existence and providing services to the public for at least the last five consecutive years as a 501(c)3 organization.
- Has filed either a Form 990 or 990-EZ with the IRS according to IRS requirements (not required by divisions of local government).
- Has as its primary purpose to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement or preservation of visual arts, performing arts, cultural history, natural history, or natural sciences.

The Denver Area includes the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson.

The SCFD does not allow funding of:
- Any agency of the state
- A Library
- A school, an educational institution, or a foundation affiliated with a school or educational institution
- A church or church program
- A radio or television broadcasting network or station
- A cable communications system
- A newspaper or magazine
- An organization that is engaged solely in the acquisition or physical restoration of historic buildings, structures or sites

Pre-Application Information:

The Deadline for your complete eligibility application is Wednesday, September 14, 2022 @ 4:00 PM.

Application Process:
- Step 1: Call the SCFD Office to speak with a member of staff about your organization.
- Step 2: Start collecting information. It’s important you read both the directions and checklist to make sure you have everything you need to apply.
- Step 3: Apply for Eligibility
- Step 4: Eligibility Open House
- Step 5: Once you have submitted a complete eligibility application by the deadline, SCFD will perform a thorough review, determining if your organization meets all of the legal requirements. You will receive a Determination Letter no later than December 31st. If you are granted eligibility, your next steps will be to review the funding process, and then the Tier III grant application steps.

If your organization has received SCFD funds in the past but has not received funding for the last three consecutive years, you must reapply for eligibility. If your organization receives SCFD funds but has changed its mission statement, activities or location you don’t need to reapply for eligibility, but you do need to report those changes to the SCFD office immediately.
