Grants to USA LEAs and SEAs for improved, integrated arts education. Applicants are advised that required registrations may take several weeks to complete. Applicants are requested to submit a letter of intent. Funding is intended for programs that will help students improve their academic performance through integrated arts education.

The Assistance for Arts Education Development and Dissemination (AAEDD) program supports the development and dissemination of accessible instructional materials and arts-based educational programming, including online resources, in multiple arts disciplines that effectively:

  • Increase access to standards-based arts education;
  • Integrate standards-based arts education into other subjects; and
  • Improve students’ academic performance, including their knowledge and skills in creating, performing, and responding to the arts.

This notice contains two competitive preference priorities and one invitational priority.

  • Competitive Preference Priority 1: Applications From New Potential Grantees
  • Competitive Preference Priority 2: Applicants That Are National Nonprofit Organizations. 
  • Invitational Priority: Art Therapy. Under this priority, an applicant must describe how it will include art therapy in their project to improve cognitive and sensory-motor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, or reduce and resolve conflicts and distress.

Program Requirements. Projects funded under this program must include

  • Professional development for arts educators, teachers, and principals;
  • Development and dissemination of accessible instructional materials and arts-based educational programming, including online resources, in multiple arts disciplines; and
  • Community and national outreach activities that strengthen and expand partnerships among schools, LEAs, communities, or centers for the arts, including national centers for the arts.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible applicants include:
1. An LEA or consortium of LEAs in which 20 percent or more of the students served by the LEA or LEAs within the consortium are from families with an income below the Federal poverty line (including a public charter school that meets the definition of LEA in section 8101(30) of the ESEA) (eligible LEA), and that may work in partnership with one or more of the following:
- An SEA;
- An institution of higher education;
- The Bureau of Indian Education; or
- A museum or cultural institution, or another private agency, institution, organization.
2. An SEA; an institution of higher education; a museum or cultural institution; Bureau of Indian Education; or private agency, institution, or organization, that must partner with an eligible LEA, and that may partner with another eligible entity.

Applicants are required to provide, in the application, data from the most recent U.S. Census as evidence that the local educational agencies (LEAs) meet the statutory requirement that 20 percent or more of the students served by the LEA (or for each LEA within a consortium of LEAs) are from families with an income below the Federal poverty line.
