Grant Description
Grants of up to $5,000 to Florida nonprofit organizations to host small-scale promotional and special events in eligible areas. Funding is intended for a wide range of events, including festivals, shows, competitions, markets, and parades. Eligible activities must take place within the Greater Frenchtown Southside Redevelopment District or the Downtown Redevelopment District of Tallahassee.

Eligible special events and promotional activities include concerts, exhibitions, festivals, carnivals, athletic events, craft shows, competitions, parades, celebrations, markets, or similar events. The event must promote at least one goal or objective of the CRA Greater Frenchtown Southside Community Redevelopment Plan or the CRA Downtown Community Redevelopment Plan.

Eligible Use of Funds: 

  • Rentals such as equipment, tents, chairs, tables, facilities, port-a-lets, etc; 
  • Marketing and promotion including advertising, the printing of flyers, and banners; 
  • Entertainment, performers;
  • Permits and licensing fees;
  • Costs of security;
  • Insurance; and
  • Food and drinks that will be consumed at the event.

Not-for-profit corporations registered with the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations are eligible to receive funding.

Ineligible
For-profit entities, governmental organizations, political organizations, religious organizations, and educational institutions are not eligible for funding under the program.

The following are not eligible expenses:
• Operating or overhead expenses of the host or applicant organization including salaries or employee compensation;
• Prize money, awards, plaques, or certificates; or
• Alcoholic beverages.

An entity that is in default under an existing agreement, loan, or obligation with the CRA or the City of Tallahassee is not eligible for funding.

Pre-Proposal Conference
A pre-application workshop will be held at the beginning of May to provide an opportunity for potential applicants to ask questions and receive information prior to submitting their application. The workshop is optional to attend, and the PowerPoint will be available after the workshop is held. Please check the Fund's website for additional information including date, location, and time.

Pre-Application Information
The application deadline is Friday, June 30, 2023, at 4 pm.

There is a separate application for Greater Frenchtown/Southside and for Downtown District. Please be sure to fill out the appropriate application for your event.

Staff will be available until Friday, June 23, 2023, to schedule 30-minute meetings to assist applicants with their applications. Please contact the CRA office for questions or to schedule a meeting.

Organizations may only submit one (1) one-time complete application submittal for the fiscal year. Nonprofits/events may only receive one grant award per fiscal year for either district.

Estimated Size of Grant
The maximum grant award is $5,000.

Term of Contract
The events must occur between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024.
