Grant Description
Grants of up to $2,000 and grants of up to $10,000 to Alberta registered nonprofit charities, individuals, and organizations in eligible locations for activities to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Funding areas of interest include the environment, community support, and community well-being. Eligible applicants are located in the town of Banff.

Town of Banff Community Grants were established to provide an annual distribution of funds to enhance the quality of life for residents and encourage positive environmental change.

The three grant funding streams are: 

  • Municipal Community Wellbeing Grants: Funds to support projects, programs, events, operating costs, equipment, or start-up funds that benefit Banff residents and enhance their quality of life in accordance with the Town of Banff’s vision, goals, and strategic priorities

    • Funds may support:
      • Projects, programs, or events
      • Operating costs
      • Equipment costs
      • Startup funding
  • FCSS Building Bridges Grants:  Funds that support projects, initiatives, events, or equipment that fit with the Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) funding agreement with the province- strengthening the social well-being of individuals, families, and community
    • Funds may support:
      • Rental or purchase of equipment
      • Rental for space
      • Advertising and/or promotion
      • Supplies
      • Food
      • Incentives and/or prizes
      • Honorariums
      • Learning and leadership development opportunities
  • Environmental Impact Grants: Funds for projects or initiatives that demonstrate positive environmental impacts and align with Banff’s Environmental Master Plan - including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and waste-to-landfill

            • Funds may support
              • Projects, programs, or events
              • Operating costs
              • Startup funding
              • Rental or purchase of supplies or equipment
              • Rental of space
              • Advertising and/or promotion
              • Honorariums
              • Contractor support or wages

          Municipal Community Wellbeing Grants
          - Registered non-profits, charities, societies, or community groups serving Banff
          - Providing services to residents of the Town of Banff

          FCSS Building Bridges Grants
          - Individuals, informal groups of individuals or neighbors, or non-registered groups/community organizations
          - Residents of Banff or Lake Louise, consistently for the past six months

          Environmental Impact Grants
          - Individuals, informal groups of individuals or neighbors, or non-registered groups/community organizations
          - Residents of Banff or Lake Louise, consistently for the past six months

          Ineligible
          Municipal Community Grants
          Ineligible applications:
          • Those submitted by individuals, for-profit organizations or agencies which primarily fund other organizations
          • Applicants who have not met the responsibilities of a previously provided grant
          • Organizations that have financial assets covering more than two years of operating costs
          • Those submitted for activities restricted to people of specific religious groups. Note: churches may apply for projects that are open to the whole community
          • Expenses related to annual fund-raising campaigns, debt retirement, alcohol or drugs

          FCSS Building Bridges Grants:
          Ineligible applications:
          • Applicants who have not met the responsibilities of a previously provided grant
          • Those submitted for activities restricted to people of specific religious groups. Note
          churches may apply for projects that are open to the whole community.
          • Registered non-profit organizations, societies, and charities – please see Municipal Community Grants instead)
          • Those submitted by government bodies or businesses
          • Expenses related to salaries, for-profit ideas, annual fund-raising campaigns, debt retirement, alcohol or drugs

          Environmental Impact Grants:
          Ineligible applications:
          • Those submitted by businesses, for-profit organizations, or government bodies
          • Those who have not met the responsibilities of a previously provided grant
          • Expenses related to annual fund-raising campaigns, debt retirement, alcohol, or drugs
          • Those submitted for activities restricted to people of specific religious groups. Note: churches may apply for projects that are open to the whole community

          Pre-Application Information
          2023 Community Grants applications are open from March 30 – May 15
          Decisions will be made by the end of May and approved by Banff Town Council by the end of June. All applicants will be contacted regardless of the outcome.

          Estimated Size of Grant
          - Municipal Community Wellbeing Grants: Total grant money available is $10,000, up to $10,000 per grant
          - FCSS Building Bridges Grants: Total grant money available is $11,000, up to $2,000 per grant. Typical grant size is between $100 and $2,000
          - Environmental Impact Grants: Total grant money available $20,000, up to $10,000 per grant

          Term of Contract
          Funded projects for 2024 must be delivered by September 1, 2024.
