Grants to Maryland non-profit organizations to provide and expand representation in family law matters at reduced fees. Funding is available for the placement of any contested family law matters with reduced-fee attorneys; however, a minimum of 40% of the cases must be complex contested child custody matters.

As determined by its board, Grantee may choose to refer only complex contested child custody cases or broaden the criteria to other contested family law matters. Judicare funding may also be used for appropriate collaborative law cases.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

By statute, the Corporation’s funds must be used by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to provide legal assistance to eligible clients in noncriminal proceedings or other matters.

Pre-proposal Conference:

MLSC will hold a meeting to discuss the grant application process, general funding policies and the forecast for MLSC’s FY 2016 funding level with grantees and other interested persons on Friday, January 30, 2015, 10:30 AM in the Wheeler Auditorium at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, Central Branch, 400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore.

Those unable to attend the meeting but are interested in applying for FY 2016 funding should call the MLSC office after January 30 to request a grant application packet.

Pre-Application Information:

New applicants should send a brief description of the proposed program to the Corporation. If the proposed program appears to fit grant guidelines, the Corporation will request a formal application and more detailed information.
