Award of $250 and in-kind support to a Nebraska K-8 teacher to recognize efforts to integrate agricultural concepts into the classroom curriculum. The award is intended to recognize a teacher for their integrated efforts and interest in teaching students about the importance of agriculture.

Criteria for Selection

  • Application should convey a strong sense of the teacher’s efforts to integrate agricultural literacy concepts into core-subject learning. This should include reference to classroom teaching and learning activities.
  • The successful applicant will integrate and utilize agricultural information within his/her classroom curriculum to assist students in learning about the importance of agriculture. Instruction may include, but is not limited to:
    • Understanding the importance and value of agriculture in students’ daily lives.
    • Understanding the relationships among agriculture, food and fiber, animals, health, energy systems, technology, economics, and the environment.
    • Identifying and understanding the connections between academic content areas and agricultural careers.
    • Additional points will be awarded for participation in or use of Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation programs and resources. For example:
      • Ag Pen Pal Program
      • Nebraska AITC Enriching Activities
      • Virtual Field Trips
      • Farm/ Ranch Field Trips
      • Classroom Presentations

The winner of this award will receive:
- A trip to the 2019 National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas to gain new ideas for their classroom. The award includes conference registration, airfare, and lodging.
- A Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation Book Bundle: Twelve accurate agriculture books with corresponding literature guides.
- A $250 cash prize for use in the teacher’s classroom.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible Applicants:
- Full-time teachers currently engaged in integrating agricultural concepts into non-vocational agriculture classroom settings at the Kindergarten to 8th grade levels. This must be an individual teacher.
- Past winners of this award may not apply again.
