Grants to Illinois elementary schools to increase students' fresh fruit and fresh vegetable consumption. Priority is given to elementary schools based on free and reduced eligibility. This program is to be used for fresh fruits and vegetables provided to children at no cost, outside of the reimbursable meal(s).

The USDA requires that the allocation for each selected school range from $50 - $75 per student per year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, the school site must:
- Participate in the National School Lunch Program.
- Be an elementary school (school with grades 8 and below).
- Understand that USDA requires highest priority be given to schools with the highest percentage of low-income students. Due to the number of elementary schools in Illinois at or above the 50 percent criterion, only schools at this level should apply. If funding remains, an additional application will be released for additional schools to apply.

To apply, download the attached application form. Each elementary school building must apply separately. Only one application per school building may be submitted.
