Grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to Kenosha, Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha Counties, Wisconsin non-profit organizations and public entities for locally initiated projects that protect, restore, and sustain the ecosystem in the watersheds. Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact Foundation staff prior to submitting an application.

Funds will be awarded for projects that promote near shore health by protecting watersheds from polluted runoff; restore wetlands and other habitats; combat invasives; and monitor water, aquatic life, and sediments to assess the health of the Root River and Pike River.

Projects are evaluated based on the degree to which they:
-Meet Root-Pike WIN's mission and vision,
-Follow recommendations or best management practices from community agencies (SEWRPC, DNR, etc.),
-Follow management measures in current Watershed Restoration Plans,
-Protect unique environmental, archeological, or cultural areas,
-Can be duplicated throughout the watershed,
-Encourage partnerships and leverage resources,
-Balance a long-term focus with short-term results, and
-Promote excellence by fostering a sense of pride and identification in the watershed.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be associated with a not-for-profit organization, government entity or other public agency. Proof of non-profit status must be submitted with the application.

Projects must be located in the Root-Pike Watershed. More information regarding the geographic scope of the watershed may be viewed here:

Pre-Application Information:

The Resource Group is giving funding priority to projects that address critical areas identified in the plans. The plans can be accessed from Root-Pike WIN's website (click on Help Now and select the watershed that applies to your project).

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact Root-Pike WIN staff (262-898-2055 or to discuss their project prior to submitting their online application.

Prior to completing the online application, use the Word document template (attached below) to complete your answers. Once you begin your online grant application, you cannot save your progress and return later. By completing the application questions in Word first, you can take your time and then simply copy and paste your answers into the online form.

Also prior to completing the online application, complete this Excel budget template (attached below). You will be asked to upload it to the online application form and it will be best if you have already completed and saved it.
