Grant Description
Grants to Washington nonprofit and for-profit organizations and municipalities in eligible regions for projects that support and encourage cultural activities and tourism. Applicants are required to submit a notice of intent prior to a full grant application. Funding is intended to promote tourism and for the operation, construction, and acquisition of tourism-related facilities. Projects must be designed to attract tourists to the City of Lakewood with the goal of increasing the number of overnight stays in local lodging facilities.

Funds are intended to:

  • Generate increased tourism in Lakewood resulting in overnight stays at local hotels.
  • Generate maximum economic benefit through overnight lodging, sale of meals and goods, and construction of tourism-related facilities.
  • Increase recognition of Lakewood throughout the region as a destination for tourism.
  • Increase opportunities for tourism by developing new visitor activities.

Tourism promotion is defined as, "...activities and expenditures designed to increase tourism, including but not limited to advertising, publicizing, or otherwise distributing information for the purpose of attracting and welcoming tourists; developing strategies to expand tourism; operating tourism promotion agencies; and funding marketing of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists.”


Additional Eligibility Criteria
Any organization, including private businesses, can use the funds to advertise and promote tourism through the media. The promotion must be designed to attract tourists to Lakewood with the goal of increasing the number of overnight stays in the City’s lodging facilities.

Eligible organization types include: Non-profit, For-profit, Municipality, Private business, etc.

Pre-Application Information
Program Schedule:
- Mon, Jul. 1, 2023: Application period opens (application form available on City’s Finance webpage)
- Fri, Aug. 18, 2023: Provide courtesy notification to Dana Kapla indicating your interest in applying and method of submittal. The purpose of this notification is to ensure your application is received.
- Mon, Aug. 21, 2023: Applications due no later than 5:00pm
- Tue, Sept. 12, 2023: LTAC agenda packet emailed to LTAC committee. Also made available online
- Fri, Sept. 22, 2023: LTAC meets to hear presentations and to make funding recommendations
- Mon, Nov. 13, 2023: Recommendations to Lakewood City Council Study Session
- Mon, Nov. 20, 2023: Final decision on FY2023 award allocation adopted by Council
- Jan/Feb. 2024: Contracts issued for FY2023 LTAC grant awards

Once approved for funding an organization must enter into a contract with the City and funding will be provided in quarterly installments or on a reimbursable basis.

Lakewood Ordinance No. 492 requires that all businesses and contractors (including non-profits) that contract with the city enroll and participate in the Federal E-Verify program. The business entity or contractor shall be required to continue its participation in the program throughout the course of its business relationship with the City.
