Grants of up to $7,500 to California nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for organizational improvements that foster efficiency and greater ability to serve the local community. Funding is intended for organizations that address community needs, with special attention to underserved or marginalized populations. The Foundation funds organizations and groups serving West Marin.

With this round of community grants, West Marin Fund offers nonprofit organizations and groups serving West Marin the opportunity to increase the competence, confidence and diversity of team members in an equitable manner so that they can better serve the community and realize their organization’s mission.

Through these community grants, the Fund aims to foster a variety of actions, including:

  • Strategic approaches to strengthening personnel and human resources that are equitable and legally compliant;
  • Increased opportunities for youth and people of low income;
  • Implementable plans to meet unexpected challenges;
  • Collaborative efforts with other nonprofits to bring recognition and resources for greater diversity of nonprofit volunteers and staff;
  • Creative approaches to team building that take account of best practices;
  • Communication technologies and capability that support online learning, group interaction, and working from home;
  • Increased training for staff and volunteers to address an emergency or crisis.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The minimum amount awarded is $2,000 and the maximum is $7,500.

Term of Contract:

If awarded a grant, an organization will be expected to use the funds within ten months.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:
- Be a registered 501(c)(3) organization or a group with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor;
- Be based in or provide services in West Marin, ideally for the last three years;
- Have a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Organizations need to show that they:
- Have a stated plan and goals for addressing specific issues
- Can demonstrate responsible fiscal management and adequate accounting procedures
- Have a track record of realizing change
- Benefit more than a handful of persons

Timeline:
- Thursday, April 23, 2020, 5:00 PM – Online submission deadline
- Mid-June, 2020 – Notification of decision, grants disbursed
- Mid-April, 2021 – Grant expended, activities completed
- April 30, 2021 – Final report due
