Grants to Tenessee nonprofit organizations, agencies, and public schools in eligible locations for projects to enhance the quality of life for local residents. Applicants must attend a grant information session prior to applying. Program focus areas include health, community and economic development, and education. Eligible applicants are located in South Cumberland Plateau.

Description of  Focus Areas:

  • Community and Economic Development: Proposals might include but are not limited to efforts that increase business opportunities, job and career training, community building activities, efforts to increase/improve housing and transportation, initiatives in the arts, cultural and historic awareness and preservation, land preservation, and initiatives that encourage community planning, collaboration, and creative approaches. 
  • Education: Proposals might include but are not limited to efforts in early education, parent and family involvement activities, school-aged and college support activities, adult education, and all initiatives that are intended to increase access to libraries and reading, the arts, and life-long love of learning.  
  • Health: Proposals might include but are not limited to efforts to assure health access, to increase prevention programs, to improve access to healthy food, increased access to fitness activities and community planning and awareness efforts around health improvement.

Due to the challenges posed by COVID-19 applicants are allowed to apply for operational funding during the 2021 spring grants cycle.

Term of Contract:

SCCF grant funds are “last dollar in,” meaning that all other funds must be raised before SCCF funds are available. Organizations have up to one year to raise any additional funds needed to complete the project.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The spring grants cycle is open to South Cumberland Plateau area nonprofits.

Any political subdivision (county or town), and any administrative department (such as a Sheriff's Department, Police Department, Fire Department, or Department of Education), and any individual public school may submit applications independently of one another.

Pre-proposal Conference:

All interested parties must attend one of three grant information sessions. All sessions will take place via Zoom.

- Grant Information Sessions: February 26, Noon. March 1, Noon & 6 pm
- April 16: Application Deadline
- April 22: Grants committee decides which applicants will be interviewed; invitations for interviews extended
- April 26-30: Interviews with selected applicants
- Week of May 3: Grants committee meets to decide on slate of recipients to submit to SCCF board
- May 17: Slate approved by board
- May 28: 2021 grant recipients notified; contracts sent
- Month of June: Grant contracts and reports created
- June 8, 3:30 PM: Zoom grant awards ceremony
- June 9: Signed grant contract deadline, grant funds released
